Yes, but so far he has been a below-average ILB. Hopefully, he figures it out this season.. I was hoping we would draft Rodriguez so they can make Queen the WILL. He plays better at that spot.

The longer the team can delay the better for their cap situation. Ramsey and Heyward could be dropped next season. Watt could go the season after. Three big contracts on defense that go away. Should help offset JPJ's contract.

    That's a good point.

And the first year in big contracts like JPJs will likely have a low cap hit in year 1 too since they are basically always structured so the 1st year money the player gets is signing bonus (only 1/4 or 1/5 of this will count to the cap) and salary that's basically at the minimum.

Contract will look cheaper if we sign it this year if people don't look only at "new years" because it still includes the last year of his rookie deal. And it's also possible that if he signed next year the contract would go an extra year into the future, so the team would be "buying" one more UFA year...which will be very expensive (but probably cheaper than that year would actually be if it were paid for on the following contract).

It's pretty easy to get more.

I think it's almost guaranteed that they'll restructure DK.

They would have more if they didn’t pay Watt

Only because the Patriots traded with the Steelers to move down. They don't do that if they aren't 100 percent certain the Steelers weren't going to take Gonzalez.

Geez we aren't really paying a Qb, and won't be for at least another 4 years, or more. Pay the man.

When are the Steelers going to stop letting the Browns keep setting the market first?

Yeah Herbig's base salary this year is just over $1.3MM. Total cap hit is under $5.5MM. Porter's deal will have a bigger bonus but base salary will be low. The first year of the second deal is cheap when you get it done early. The player gets money in their pocket so they don't care about the game check in year 1. And they're probably hitting FA a year earlier for their 3rd contract. The team gets that first year pretty cheap and takes on less risk on the back end (they stay on the right side of the age curve) in return.

Price tag keeps going up. At this point, injury or not, Peezy Jr is gonna be a whole lot richer.
