He wasn't just being young and dumb. He was doing something that compromises the integrity of the game and potentially causes huge problems in his own life. Throw in the talk of other mental health issues, and I'm glad the Steelers are likely to pass. I'm not saying he doesn't have a right to play in the NFL if he is good enough. I just don't want him on my favorite team.

My issue with your posts is that you dismiss a serious problem as just a young guy being dumb.

 

OK. And you are correct; I am an Ass; I don't consider Gambling, Obesity, or even Alcoholism a medical condition that someone should be able to claim disability for. I believe if they wanted to, they could just stop their behavior on their own, and don't need to use it as a crutch to get preferential treatment or a free pass in life because it is a "Medical Condition".

Does he have special powers with other teams' players to influence their game? How is this different than any other large bettor that might get on the phone to a player about his bet on a game?

People who suffer from those conditions deserve the blame for starting down those paths, though even that is overly simplistic because obesity can be caused by medical conditions and it often begins with parental choices. (Is it a young child's fault that they are obese if their parents don't teach and enforce proper eating habits?) Alcoholics choose to start drinking and gambling addicts choose to start gambling. That said, your take seems to be that mental health conditions aren't real, which is unbelievably ignorant.

 

It is less of one given the use of sports betting apps, though even that information can be tracked.

That is the other issue here, that some people that age have this entitled notion that the rules don't apply to them. I see it in my students. I imagine it is even more common among people who grow up as star athletes.

Read your own post. A redshirt freshman already sat out the first year to preserve one of their four seasons of eligibility.

That's why a quarterback like Drew Allar played as a true freshman which is the first year he was with the school.

Sorsby played as a redshirt freshman. He sat out as a true freshman. The school can then Redshirt that player. He is a sophomore academically and in his second year at the school, but he is listed as a redshirt freshman with the team which means he has used up his one redshirt opportunity and will be designated as a redshirt for the rest of his college career as I listed in an above post.

What is a Redshirt?
In NCAA sports, a redshirt is an athlete who sits out of gameplay for a season while remaining eligible to compete in four years of college sports.

Most Division I athletes are allowed:

• Five calendar years to complete
• Four seasons of competition

When an athlete redshirts, they use one academic year but do not use one of their four competition seasons. The following year, they are academically a sophomore but compete athletically as a freshman, hence the term redshirt freshman.

Athletes who redshirt as freshmen begin competing in their second year of college and can extend their playing career into a fifth academic year. These athletes are often referred to as fifth-year seniors.

 

The same way that refs can change an outcome in a game. If your told the point of emphasis that week is to cut down on the clutching and grabbing over the middle, then that is what you call. Does it impact how certain teams play? Yes. Does it seem noticeable in any way as fixing the game? Not really. In Sorsby's case he can keep his teammates out late, give them bad advice at practice, be a bug in thier ear telling them that the coaches are doing them dirty, or praising them which directly results the hundreds of microbets he is supposed to be hooked on.

 

You do know , and I'm not saying he did, but You don't have to play in a game to have information of the game calls, formations, signals, and other such things

 

I am an alcoholic, so I live with the reality of feeling that jones deep down for drinks, that gnaws at me non-stop. That said I don't blame my genetics, my upbringing, my parents, my friends, or anyone other than myself, because embracing a victim storyline would not be helpful or true. Accountability is important in these things.

So when I see a gambler (of which there are many on my father's side of my family) way I see it is he's to blame for his condition. This is life. You are either strong enough to choose the right paths, even after starting down the wrong paths, or you are not. Life doesn't care what kind of storyline you attach to any of it. You end up sleeping in the bed you make.

In other words I think if you are a player and you gamble, you deserve what you get if you gamble on your sport and are discovered. Accountability, again, is important. But on the other side of that coin I don't believe in cancelling people for their mistakes, because we are all human. Once you pay the price for your behavior, we're good.

As this pertains to Sorsby this is why I mentioned prior that I don't condemn him for his gambling. His accountability is losing his college experience. The only thing I don't like about any of this was his approach to get his way. That rubbed me wrong. And by extension if he does have panic attacks then he has little chance to be a QB1 at this level. It's all strange, too, because I really like the kid. If you watch his interviews, he's likeable, personable, and his game is strong on the field. So it seems to me there's a chance some team takes him pretty high.

 

I agree with almost everything you said, but I still wouldn't want him on my team because I would always wonder.
Just like a thief, if they have paid for their transgressions I don't want them canceled, but if something goes missing in my place I can't stop 1st thinking of them.
It's a common problem with being human, You can forgive, but it's hard to forget.

 

The next question is will Roger Goodell announce if Sorsby will be suspended by the NFL before the supplemental draft?

And for Pittsburgh, would a 2026 suspension actually increase his value? Not having to add Sorsby to their 53-man roster when the season begins would definitely help keep Will Howard around for another year. Going into 2027 with Sorsby, Allar, and Howard would be the "Shotgun" style Franchise QB Re-Building Scenario.


I am increasing my bid to a 2nd round Pick for the Steelers.
I watched some more film on Sorsby and I would think for 2027 he would be a Top 10 pick. As many have pointed out, if Sorsby would have came out this year he would have probably gone in front of Simpson at #13.
