KC Concepcion I will give you. He is going to be an issue. Fano and Boston I disagree with; more so Fano because Boston was correctly selected as far as his draft slot goes. Fano was massively overdrafted and the likes of Hendrickson, Watt, Highsmith and Herbig are gonna have a field day with him.

Way too light in the pants and cannot handle speed to power.

Problem is that Patrick Graham's new system is going to take some time adjusting to. For that matter, expect growing pains from the entire team. New staff means new philosophy.

That often means more mistakes in the early going.

And given that we have no plan for QB next season, I think it's more likely that we're on the downswing than the upswing.

I think this was true up until last season.

Last season it was the D being unable to get off the field that limited the offensive opportunities.

And the O was getting better while the D was getting worse.

I don't think either side of the ball was particularly good last year. The D did get a lot of turnovers (fewer than the previous season). But even with that they were (slightly) below average.

Basically, the team was held together with duct tape last season. And we benefited from big injuries to the Rats and Bengals. And a crucial missed FG by the Rats.

That doesn't really take away from the result they got last year. You are what your record says you are.

But I think it does make projecting them to do as well or better this season difficult.

The Ravens were losing before Lamar got injured, were the Bengals going to win the division with a healthy Burrow and a really bad defense?

Last season,it was the worst AFC north season ever.No team deserved to make the playoffs in that division in 2025.I don't think it will happen again this year

Maybe I'm more optimistic but I think the OL guys will work out, Daylen Everett has a chance to be a contributor in the secondary and Bernard will be a stud at WR.

i agree with the o line working out, they've invested enough in the line and just by knowing the coaching staff is more geared toward offense i have more confidence they can get better results.

im just being cautiously optimistic overall myself and dont want to say were on the upswing until i see the team performing better

They were 5-3 with Burrow last season. If he had managed to stay healthy they would have been in the mix at the end even with the bad defense. They have an easier schedule this season. They will make noise.

    You're right.

I think this is the "plan":

Pray that we hit on a long shot of a 6th rounder, a 3rd rounder (neither of which had played a down of even preseason football)...or that we'll be bad enough to draft a franchise guy in the 1st, while we simultaneously strive to make the playoffs and win a playoff game for the first time in too long.

So exactly how do they draft a player who has played a down of preseason football

My point is that if the plan is "next year we're going to start one of two or three guys we haven't even seen play against guys who won't make NFL rosters in preseaon"...well, that's pretty much the same as no real plan.

Note also that one of the guys we're talking about was drafted last year (I'm sure you're aware of when Howard was drafted). And we still haven't seen him play against the group of NCAA all star players who don't end up making practice squads.

I would be over the moon if Howard or Allar works out. And it's a non-zero chance that it happens. But the expected result is that he fails. I like that we're accumulating lottery tickets though. That's a necessary part of the process. Especially since we haven't seen anyone who we felt was worth attaining in the 1st (that we could actually move up to attain).

At least it will be balanced lol. Not necessarily a positive statement but we may see a decline on both sides of the ball until the coaching staff and players are seeing things the same.
