Your point is always the Steelers should've made the deal you wanted them to make, even though in reality most of them had no chance in hell of happening .

My point is they should have made those moves because they would have improved the team in the short and long term, and if the team had wanted them, they could have had them.

This is not madden.....Nothing can make us believe that Darnold would been interresed to come in Pittsburgh in a Arthur Smith offense and with players like Pickens who was in the roster at that time was often unhappy in the first 3 years

I mean,c'mon, stop to living in a fantasy world....We can't blame the steelers for a lot of thing but the steelers had no chance for Darnold

Exactly. Not many teams were out there just battling to get Darnold on their team. Hell the Vikings let him walk apparently thinking it was their system, and not him that made the difference. I'm not saying that some people didn't want him here , but most of this is hindsight . Let's not forget Darnolds 25 tds overall, 14 ints, and 11 fumbles were not some unbelievable thing that everyone would die to have on their team. In todays day, and age it's not that good, but because their team was awesome, it worked.
I mean Rodgers had 25 overall tds, 7 ints, 4 fumbles, but people want him out of the league

Again, I'm so glad we have so many of Sam Darnold's close confidants here to tell us what he would have done had the Steelers made a real push for him.

Folks, or at least one folk, forget that Darnold's season in 2024 ended in a smoking crater. In a final regular season loss to the Lions and then a WildCard loss to the Rams, Darnold failed to produce more than 9 points of offense in either game, had like 160 yards passing in each game, and only completed like 50% of his passes. It really looked like the league had the new book on Darnold and he was cooked. It may not be possible to over-estimate how bad he looked in those final two games.

That was the league's final impression of Darnold before he hit the market asking for money and to be named a team's starter. It was a big ask coming off two atrocious performances.

Because it would make no sense for Darnold to sign with us in a system he don't know vs Seattle where he had familiarity because of Kubiak

Please don't assume I have forgotten anything. That is why Darnold was available for a relatively reasonable number.

You are assuming insight into his thought process that you don't have. Unlike you, I understand that players always talk like that after taking the money because they don't want to admit they were taking the money.

You suggested the Steelers should offered more than Seattle then that number becomes not so reasonable, Khan was playing the comp game so a big offer to Darnold was never going to happen.

Cap space was not a problem then

And they just recently proved it is not a problem now

Did they over pay Watt maybe

Does his salary create a cap problem again it was just proven to not be a problem

Its only a problem if we end up not able to sign someone else that could help the team.... Right now that doesn't seem to be the case, but we could spend $40 million bucks a lot better than the output we got last year from Watt. That doesn't mean he can't bounce back, but he turns 32 this year. JJ retired at 33. How much is really left in the tank?

The only thing that would kill me is if we aren't able to keep JPJ around because we have Watt's contract. Doesn't mean that will happen... but until we have Porter locked up there is that concern.

They know what the need to sign who the want to sign

They would not have signed Washington if it affected signing JPJ

And again the watt signing is not a problem

That is definitely a risk, in part due to Watt's contract. We have also seen them stick to mid-tier free agents or ignore weaknesses entirely, also at least partially due to the huge chunk they overpaid Watt. The amateur capologist Steeler apologist knows this, but won't be honest about it.

It really is one of the most laughable arguments ever made on this site, that overpaying Watt is fine because they don't need the money, as if they wouldn't be better off with more money available to spend. Of course, the capologist already told us his truth elsewhere, that any amount for Watt was fine because he thinks rewarding loyalty with ridiculous contracts is more important than building the best possible team.

Likewise, you are assuming Darnold would sign with the Steelers if offered more money. Money isn't always the motivation. And if they gave him an offer he couldn't refuse then it would be less a bargain that you suggest.

This has been my DREAM since the combine BEFORE they drafted him.

At a minimum just utilize him in the end-zone ad nauseam as a target until he’s just as effective as a decoy.

Sheesh - is that too much to ask?
