Where did you pull that unscientific number from??? Let me guess where, it’s dark cramped and smelly!

I routinely hear Blount named as the best and cite how he made them change the rules as one of the reasons.

I guess you just want to argue today. How about remembering on this very board how every time a great CB from the Steelers is mentioned, Woodson is the name always mentioned 1st. Hell if it wasn't for me , and a few old guys Blount wouldn't even be mentioned. How about a little top 10 Steelers players they just did a month ago, and Woodson was on it, but no mention of Blount. Like I said You are just in a argumentative mood. I can find many list of top Steelers that Woodson is in, but Blount isn't

I “still” Go to Stillers.com from time to time to get Mill’s commentary's, But I find it a bit erratic, he skips weeks, and all to frequently says report will be brief to his being busy or late game or whatever,

Don’t always agree with him, but I do find him humorous.

Anyone that ranks Woodson above Blount is probably too young to remember Blount.

    Seeing is believing

And I would not be surprised if 80% of the posters here never watched Mel play

Woodson last played for PIT in 1996, 30 yrs ago. I wouldn’t be surprised that 80% of posters never saw Woodson play for the Steelers. For many arguing Rod vs Mel is like arguing Genghis Kahn vs Napoleon, never saw them play, but I heard a lot about them.

I'm not so sure about that. It wouldn't surprise me if at least 50% of the regular posters on this board are 50+, probably a good percentage of them are even 60+. At least, that's my impression.

I would say this is correct. There are a few younger members but I think the board tilts in favor of the older fan base.

Yet every time I read a post about firing all the coaches, owner needs to sell the team, trade all the veteran players for draft picks, etc, I always wonder if that poster has their driver learner permit yet.

Not sure if some of you realize but for the fans that werent fortunate enough to see Blount and Woodson play, there was this wonderful invention that records images on the screen and lets you watch players from yesteryear.

    Really cool stuff. Groundbreaking.

Im partial to Blount, more physically dominating. But he was elite in coverage too. And he remained a steeler his whole career.

Yeah, he got a ton of carries... That's the point I was making though. Some Steeler fans think he was good because of his stats, but the team didn't pick up the 5th year option and when he was on the open market there wasn't a single team that felt like he was good enough to be their starting back... The team that did value him and sign him drafted a RB in the first round immediately. I think that tells you what the league felt about Najee and his 1,000 yard seasons.

Tough question, i see answers like Mike Wallace and Najee Harris being Overrated and I cant help but wonder how highly they were rated in the first place? In my opinion those guys were rated at the right level. The best answer I saw were guys like Pouncey and Bell because these guy were considered to be tops at their position at points in their careers and I think there are arguments to be made against that.

That's probably it right there. They never seen them both play.
Although I know a couple of guys on here that never seen Woodson, or D. Sanders play, but they will tell you how great they are.

Of the 5 you list, ONE SB winning receiver was a great receiver and ONE was a great tight end.

Moss never helped Tom win a SB and independent of Brady and Montana.we would not remember who Clarke and Edelman were.

If not for a circus helmet catch, Moss would have helped Brady to the first undefeated season since Miami.

Minkah won three First Team All Pros with the Steelers along with being a Five Time Pro Bowl player. Hard to call him overrated. Not sure what happened but the wheels for him just fell off too fast.

Didnt we end up doing to him what Miami was doing with him? And what led to him wanting to leave Miami.

Should have left him at single high.

Underrated BY FAR in Steeler success? Lamar Woodley. Same position overrated K Green.

K Green is EXACTLY THE SAME DUDE as often bashed Jason Gildon. One trick pony sack man. Woodley is similar but is the only one who routinely showed up in the post season.

Kevin Greene — 7 playoff games with Pittsburgh, 1 playoff sack as a Steeler. Woodley had more than that in his first playoff game AS A ROOKIE.

LaMarr Woodley — In his first 7 playoff games with Pittsburgh, 11 playoff sacks.

BTW, HOFer K. Kevin Greene had 8.5 TOTAL career playoff sacks in 16 postseason games with the Rams, Steelers, and Panthers. In HALF THOSE GAMES Woodley had 11.

Minkah had two injuries in 2023; one to his hamstring and one to his left knee. Now, Minkah was only 27 at the time and I doubt those injuries were that severe given how he recovered from them but who knows exactly. Regardless, injury or not, Minkah's shortcomings in Pittsburgh had less to do with him and a lot more to do with the combined efforts of both Tomlin and Austin; doubly so after the Patrick Peterson acquisition. Patrick wasn't a good signing from the start and, in usual Tomiln fashion, attempted to fit square peg into round hole.

    True dat.
    Woodley?
Let me ask you, who has more playoff sacks?
Lamarr Woodley in his first 7 playoff games or:
THE MUCH MORE BELOVED HOFER Kevin Greene in 16 playoff games with 3 teams?
    K. Green AND Greg Lloyd COMBINED as Steelers?
HOFer Lawrence Taylor in his 13 playoff games?
The ENTIRE STEELER FRANCHISE since the day we drafted TJ?

    LAMARR WOODLEY my friend.

And the ridiculous restriction of "after 2009"?

In the ONE playoffs following the 2010 season he had 3 sacks. TJ has 3 FOR HIS CAREER.

Woodley was nowhere near the best Steeler of that era.

But I would suggest he was the most consistent playoff performer.

He has the highest average number of playoff game sacks than ANYBODY IN THE TOP 20 IN NFL HISTORY.

For that reason YOUR TAKE WHICH IS COMMON is why he is one of the most underrated Steelers.

I am in my 60s and watched both. I lean Blount like you but it is not a no-brainer. I will say Woodson played in a more difficult era for the position, so it is hard to compare. DPOY Blount used his size to control receivers physically in a way that had long since been made illegal (thanks in part to Blount). Post rule change Mel was still great but not as shutdown as he was when he could beat receivers up and down the field.

I also think the sheer number of stars Mel played with waters his role in the minds of some.

Dude still is both a HOFer and is ALWAYS in the conversation of all time greats. Kind of hard to see him as underrated when LC ain't even in the hall.
