    Well this is one debate that can be settled right here on the board. Let’s find out.

    For the record, Woodson is my favorite Steeler and don’t have any issue if people view him as the best. I take exception with people thinking he was overrated, even outside of the Steelers he is mentioned as one of the best ever to play the position if not the best.

    But for the purpose of this exercise, we are just voting on best Steelers CB. I have to give the edge to Blount, he forced a rule change that reshaped the game. Also had 58 interceptions which is crazy.

    I wasn't even born yet when Blount's career started, so even what I saw isn't particularly clear in my memory. Woodson, I saw most of his games, though I wasn't in Pittsburgh when he was first drafted. Woodson was arguably the best athlete the Steelers ever employed. He was the complete package. He could make the spectacular plays and the physical ones.

    That said, I voted Blount for the same reason. He affected the game so greatly that the league had to change the rules. He was also part of four Super Bowls. Woodson only reached one with the Steelers, and that was a loss. Racking up so many interceptions was impressive, too.

    I can't help including each man's character in the equation. I've never heard a negative word about Blount. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Woodson.

    Interesting, I never heard that. About the closest I have seen is that he clearly held a grudge against the Steelers for not bringing him back.

    I take it you are speaking from when you were working the beat?

    Woodson was far and away my favorite player while he was with the Steelers, and it was quite a heartbreaking outrage when he went to play with the hated Ravens and won a super bowl with them.

    I voted for Blount for reasons stated above, but also for two additional reasons: 1. Woodson wasn't a lifelong Steeler and 2. He played safety at the end of his career.

    I saw both Blount and Woodson play. It's close but I voted Blount. Rod was a complete athlete. He played CB, KR, PR, Safety
    Both DPOY. Blount went insane in 1975 with 11 interceptions in a running game dominated league. Then the rule named after him and he still dominated.
    Side note...Don't forget that both had tremendous teammates in the secondary. Blount had Donnie Shell and Woodson had Carnell Lake
    Rod has said that Mel was the greatest CB. Glad I was able to watch both play.

    Rod Woodson was great but any discussion of greatest CB in Steeler history starts and ends with Mel Blount.

    Woodson in my top favorite Steelers but I had to go with Blount.

    Lake was a corner for 1 season and then just a handful of games as an emergency injury replacement.... he was a full time SS....
    Should've replaced him in the poll with Ike Taylor....
    Even with that mistake, this debate only realistically comes down to Blount and Woodson....
    For me it's Blount by a nose

    Yeah but he was a damn good one. He played 9 games plus 3 playoff games in 95 and a full season in 97 making All Pro.

    A remarkable feat and a testament to how good he was.

    Anyway, I was going to just make it Woodson and Blount but wanted to give fans other options.
