I did not include Caddy Shack, Zombieland and Kingpin because he didn't have a huge role in those films. There may have been a few I missed.

    I pick Ghostbusters.

Caddyshack is a close 2nd. Carl was a huge part of that movie.

What about Bob was pretty good
Just about anything Bill Murray was in was watchable
Grew up watching him on SNL
    When SNL was good
    Story out there
Murray and Chevy Chase had a physical confrontation

FYI, Caddy Shack was a 4+ hour movie before the editing had to come in. Bill Murray’s famous Cinderella Story monologue, for example, originally lasted about 30 minutes on its own. Also, interestingly, because so much of the theatrical version's humor was too raunchy for television, the network version actually added back several deleted scenes to fill the runtime:

    • The Caddie Strike: A scene where a group of caddies blocks the road to the club.
    • Family Conflicts: More footage of Noonan’s mother giving him a hard time for missing church.
    • Alternate Dialogue: Famous lines were dubbed over for TV; for example, Rodney Dangerfield's final line became, "Hey everybody, let's all take a shower!".
Here is one of the many deleted scenes...

Ghostbusters, Stipes, and Groundhog's day. All three are excellent. He had many great performances, but some are in minor roles.

I lean ever so slightly to Stripes based on its total cast.

Not a movie but a nice Bill Murray story

A friend was going to school on the island of Grenada in the Caribbean and was trying to go home for Christmas

Puddle jumper flights off that island were and are very unreliable and my friends flight was canceled

Bill Murray who was coming home from a vacation there with a girlfriend was in line clowning around

Once he knew the flight was canceled he disappeared and went and rented a private 8 seat plane to fly over to Barbados

Now he could have just taken his girlfriend and left but he went back to the line and said he had 6 empty seats and who wanted to go with him

My friend went with him and was able to get home along with 5 other students

    Groundhog day and Scrooged.

Ill give an honorable mention to Rushmore, even though he wasn't the main star

Meatballs by far. I still have the old VHS tape, must have watched it at least 30 times over the years. Lost in Translation was pretty good too, my 2nd favorite.

I have the Meatballs VHS tape also. It's a classic.

I think I would choose Stripes for second place. Have you seen the uncut version of Stripes? It has an additional 18 minutes.
