Quick little interview, he watched the draft from a cigar bar. I was just thinking watching some of the draft coverage that it was weird not seeing him in the war room.

On why he left, we already know that reason, just felt it was the best thing for the organization and the vet players trying to cash in on a SB.

Most important tidbit, thinks Rodgers will be back.

If the report of the Steelers shopping Rudolph during the draft, then they know Rodger’s is coming back.

Glad to know he is doing well! It is a shame that he didn't end his career on a high note but I will always be thankful for him for introducing me to Steelers Football. Hope his media gig yields success and happiness!

Thank you Mike Tomlin! Best of luck and best wishes! :herewego:

Going to be interesting to see him be more candid and not play everything so close to the vest.

I am guessing Tomlin is planning to go back to coaching but a year in a warm studio working regular people hours can change a guy.

you can almost hear the producers yelling in his ear to deliver more Tomlinisns… I suspect he’ll be more analytic than they expect, for sure

    Agreed.

For a guy who is very private, I wonder how he will perform in th booth. Have to be a very charismatic individual.

Without the weekly stress of leading a professional football team I suspect Tomlin will have a lot of fun in this role. He certainly looks more relaxed.

[Joel should be happy, he finally got the exit speech he was desperate to hear :applaud:)

It'll be strange having two former Steeler coaches doing tv gigs. Noll was so private, when he retired he just dropped off the radar until he died. The Steelers let coaches coach for so long, it's not often we have two living former coaches. I wonder what it's like to be a fan of the Jets or the Browns and have umpteen former living head coaches running around.

Noll did so much more when he retired than becoming a talking head on TV.

Gourmet chef, airplane pilot, and wine connoisseur come to mind immediately.

I'd love to be able to talk to him in private under truth serum to see if the answer would be any different.

He is still going to talk out of both sides of his mouth. It is in his nature.

I had dinner with him once and had the opportunity to talk to him on all 3 of those subjects which we shared common interest

Never once did we discuss football

He and his wife Marianna were very pleasant

    RIP to both

It was at a Steelers charity event I didn’t even try to sit next to him he came and sat next to me

I figured he just wanted to be treated like any other human so I asked him questions about himself

People just like when you have a sincere interest in them and not just yourself

Plus I could talk on the same level with him regarding food planes and wine

    Regarding football not so much

Sounds like he was worn out and disappointed in the last 8 years or so, we all were. Some personal stuff was apparently part of the decision, which is really typically the case for alot of people retiring. So long Mike, wish your career ended or continued as well as it started.

I had a similar experience with Darren Perry the evening before a Steelers Vs. Bengals game. My girlfriend and I walked into a packed restaurant in Cincinnati and a bunch of Steelers happen to be there. We were waiting in line and him and someone who didn’t recognize were sitting there. I had a Steelers shirt on cause it was the night before the game. After waiting about 20 minutes he asked if we wanted to sit with him and have dinner. Couldn’t believe it. All four of us hit it off like old friends just meeting up. We talked fishing, the place I grew up in Pittsburgh and generally everything except football for about an hour and he said he had to go to meet curfew and told me it was great talking to us. The only football I discussed was wishing him well in the game tomorrow. Girlfriend and I were at the game and he had a pick and I was telling everyone around us that we had dinner with him the night before. A memory I will never forget.
