Should the Steelers run it back with Rodgers or not?

I agree with this. IMHO I don't have any thoughts at all of us going to the super bowl this year with AR. This is a major transition year for the team and staff. My only realistic hope is for some serious player development. AR can give that to the most important position. I hate it but 26 is a prep year for 27 and the future nothing more. I do think we are close though, with our current personnel, we need a QB that can win games and young guys to grow.

How is it even possible to put a tender on an unrestricted free agent?
This basically only tells us that bargaining starts at 2025 salary ($14 mil) + 10% increase.

You ever heard the saying, hope in one hand and shıt in the other and see which one fills up faster?

I believe in putting the best team out there that you can every season. If that's ARod, then it's ARod. If and when ARod can't or doesn't want to do it anymore, we have 2 guys waiting and preparing. I don't have any problem with the better QB at any age. I understand the reasoning behind just wanting to go with the 2 young QBs and let it play out. I also understand the reasoning with letting ARod help teach the NFL game. We just need to decide what's best for the Steelers this season and go with that.

Steelers drafted Josh Dobbs, Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett to replace Roethlisberger. None of them worked out. It's not like the Steelers weren't active in replacing their "fading star."

Steelers also gave Mitch Trubisky and Justin Fields opportunities to be long term starters. It didn't work out.

They had two problems there. One was choosing poorly. The other was never putting any real trust in any of them. Any chance any of those guys had of becoming even a decent starter went out the window with how they were developed and treated.

I agree, but it's not like Steelers totally neglected QB in the twilight of Ben's career. Steelers were never going to develop a QB the way McVey/Stafford, Shanahan/Purdy, Johnson/Williams, Payton/Nix, Harbaugh/LJ, MacDonald/Darnold did with Tomlin and the promotion-from-within OC's he was "comfortable" with.

Aren't tenders specifically for guys with expiring contracts who are moving to UFA?

Maybe this was put on him prior to the contract expiring and only being reported now?

I guess I don't mean they neglected it, but what you and Formerscribe said. Choosing poorly, lack of development brought on by those promote from within practices which I think gave us poor coaches. I love this team but goodness gracious I'm not sure the front office and owner could run a lemonade stand well these last 4 or 5 years. Some of the choices they have made are real head scratchers, so much so that I think a few people on here could have done better based on reading this forum from the early days.

I guess as a mentor since we have two rookies and a backup. I dont think AR has much left in the tank as evidenced down the stretch last year. He cant take the hits or carry a team like he used to.

    For the Record.
No Quarterback wants to take hits at any point during his career.

Tampa's OL directing was upon the arrival of Tom Brady - "Keep his uniform clean."
    And that they did.

    Old QB's.
I saw this and remember it. It was against the Steelers and he was only 38.
I also remember that old guy Blanda.

It was also tough to watch Phillip Rivers out there... he had no arm left.

I like Rogers as a mentor and hopefully he would only start a couple games.

I don't understand why Rooney feels a need to put a timeline on it.

IIRC, he did the same thing last year and Rodgers made him look silly then too.

Although, my guess is that last year we knew before hand. And that we also know before hand now.

But young QB are more ready to take big hit when you are younger...Perfect example is Roethlisberger when he was younger vs when he become too old at the end

I thought so, too, but now that we know about the right of first refusal tender, I'm not so sure.

I am aware that Howard went back to practice in December, and Tomlin did not think it was worth moving him to QB2 or upping his practice reps.

He let Rudoplh get the lion's share of the back up reps. Now think clown are the 2026 Steelers better off because of it? In my opinion we be in better shape and Howard lost time developmental time because of this decision.

Moving him to QB2 wouldnt have done anything for his development in December. Backup QBs get very little reps, certainly not enough to make any meaningful impact on his development.

And what would they do if Rodgers got hurt? They going to play Howard who hasnt played a single snap in a game and only started practicing in December.

One more year. He hasn't retired yet. And its McCarthy plus positive additions we have made in coaching and players. Rogers starting QB, probably means Mason will be traded because we got Drew "the project" Allar. Maybe we keep four, IDK

Time to move on from Rodgers. If the current QBs on the team aren't it then hopefully, we are in position to grab a top once next draft.

    Exactly

He actually got more reps the way they handled it

He would have gotten next to nothing if they had foolishly moved him to QB2

It’s definitely a recipe to loose the young quarterback

Unfortunately some posters here think you can run an actual team the way they play Madden Football
