Ben is Ben. The difference between coming back on that beautiful throw to Holmes and the Jax loss is that Ben had to do it AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. We could not gain ground. Look at the film bro. The degree of difficulty in MULTIPLE touchdowns.

But when you turn the ball over and it results in a 14 point swing IN YOUR FAVOR you have been gifted the opportunity to make that game winning score by your defense.

If the same thing happened following Bens Jax pick it is an entirely different game. Rather than a negative the exact same QB event had an entirely different result. THAT IS MY POINT.

I think the entire offense got us buried too deep against the Browns absolutely. But 2 turnovers is a different deal than four. Not that complicated.

Of course quantity matters. Or else YOU would not think Bens Card game was any good as he had a turnover too. Did that turnover nullify Bens performance? Of course not.

There is a big difference in the two. Ben has multiple playoff wins with 2 turnovers. Even with a DTD.

Our disagreement lies in your contending that Ben is MORE responsible for the loss than the defense. In my view it is not even close that this falls most at the feet of the defense. Proof?

While Ben has MANY wins with 2 turnovers, including in the playoffs how many does he have when we give up 35? Certainly has never happened in a playoff game.

Final question.

We are on a crazy playoff drought.

If I could project our Bens stat line in our next playoff game including the turnovers would you take it or would you choose the our Jax defensive ineptitude over it.

Have often wondered how good Roethlisberger could have been if he had been a film junkie like Manning and Rodgers. I suspect that was part of his starting slow in games problem.

Wild take - I do not think he would have been as good. I am not trying to dispute that he was not a film study first kind of guy.

But I kinda think that Ben's super-power was just going out and playing. I believe that thinking might have ruined that. Some of the best plays I can remember him making are precisely what everyone ever associated with playing QB would tell someone learning the position not to do.

For me, I put Ben and Favre in a similar group of QBs. I do not thinking would have improved things. It most likely would have reined in their more ridiculous instincts.

As to the slow starts, I always figured that after the first couple of seasons, it took Ben a bit to "figure out" what was the best way to play that particular game. Then he kind of took off. Maybe that is similar to where you and others are at?

 

I can agree Ben was not the student of the game I would have liked for him to have become. He left some things on the table no question. He still carried MT to everything he achieved.

I loved when Ben would run the hurry up offense that's when he was at his best.

 

I understand what you're saying because young Ben was full of himself, did some stupid things, and could have done some things differently.

However, I can't fully agree with it, because you can't have that much success playing the position at a Hall of Fame level by just winging it and not learning the game at an extremely high level and working hard. When he became an older player and could no longer move well, he wouldn't even be able to play the position without tremendous knowledge and execution.

 

And Charlie Batch said he puts more blame on the players because they're the ones on the field .

When this is a problem year after year after year with different players but with the same head coach......I mean around 65 games without scoring over 7 points in the first quarter,almost a nfl record

 

Some guys will go to any length to absolve the franchise QB who couldn't win a playoff game from 2017-2021 .

Too bad Batch wasn't playing while making these opinions and demonstrating great decision-making losing all his money off the field. I'm not sure that a guy begging for a paycheck working for the Steelers is the place to get the most unbiased information about who is at fault and for what.
