Prediction: Beck will be a Steeler

If I were in my early 20's, making $4 million a year, and thought I wasn't going to make it in the NFL, I'd stay in college at $4 million a year as long as possible. I wonder if he's thinking the same thing.

Will Howard signed with the Steelers for 4-years, $4.4 million. $248,000 guaranteed.

Beck ran it for yards in 2025. Yes he did!

Beck had 62 yards on 43 attempts for a lowly 0.7 Yards per carry last year. This is often vs Big East competition and as a 6 year college guy who is a fairly bright man who knows when to run SUCKS. In fact vs. ranked teams he has a negative rushing average. So when runs he does not even average a yard. Still extrapolating? Digest a bit more than imagine how he would do in the NFL.

I think his pocket mobility is a minus.

This tackles your reply of the 40 times he did not run, nor has non't run in two years!

Again by my eye he is a 4.85 to 4.95 guy. That why he hasn't run and speed drills vs. NFL scouts.

 

Matt Schuab ( class of 2004 ) was a good strating QB as well. He lasted 17 years in the NFL, statred 93 games, and made 2 pro bowls.

 

Understood. Now if you care to highlight what are talking about on film his mobility of lack thereof can be viewed. I'm not saying he can't run at all. All QB's can.

I am saying he will be easy to sack in the NFL. He gets rid of the ball very quickly . A 1 or 2 read type he mostly is. And he will throw lots of interceptions if given the chance to start in the NFL. On 3rd down and 5+ yards Beck will struggle the NFL.

Under duress he is sub par. Like I said he threw 12 picks last year vs. weak college competition. Just wait until he hits the NFL.

I view his NFL ceiling as that of a #2 QB who may start for a few games due to injury or desperation when a teams #1 QB is stuggling.

I also view his off the field habits as questionable as there are very few successful QB's in the past who had his playboy lifestyle -- partying ways, girls, and everything else that surrounds them.

No, I don't know beck, but I do know some peole who have the 411 on the man.

Man -- he did have a player in 5 yards around on him in that rushing play! Seriously I am more than sure posters on the board could have run for a score too .

And are you using that clip as a highlight of his rushing ability?

A little football secret. All QBs can run on man defense when the defensive line has zero pressure and there isn't a player within 5 yards of the QB.
Beck didn't beat anyone to a spot.

Now I value a running QB, but value it behind a QB's arm, accuracy and QB smarts.

That Pavia keeps popping up on my radar.... if only he was 3 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier.... sigh.

This is a class of backups for the future. Do the Steelers grab one on Day 3 to dump Rudolph next season?

 

In a normal draft year with a QB already in place I might agree but the Steelers have the extras this year and no long term QB so why not take that chance? Steelers have pick #s 76, 85, and 99.

R. Wilson
N. Foles
R. Gannon
M. Schaub

If nothing else, the Steelers can dump Rudolph to save a few bucks on the chance that lightning could strike.

 

What do you mean? Pavia is 6'4". Don't believe me? Just ask him. Hahaha. Diego Parvo in black and gold would be the last straw for me with the steelers.

 

If you don't have a QB and you think someone can be a medium term starter, taking the chances makes some sense.

But if you think a guy can be a medium term starter, you probably shouldn't wait until the 3rd to take him IMO.

I won't be surprised if we use (waste?) one of those 3rds on a QB. And if that happens, I'll hope they succeed (just like I hope that Howard succeeds).

While there are guys that make it from that spot, my guess is that the chances are small. Just like the odds of Howard being Brady are also small.

If we're going to waste a 3rd round pick, I'd probably prefer to trade it to someone and try to get a 2nd next year.

 

How big are his hands?

 

Big enough to beat off defenders.

 

Remember, some of those numbers are for accumulating stats by being in school longer and playing more games. Also, playing with elite players all around them with a great offensive line and receivers helps the numbers.

Quarterbacks that play more seasons in college are playing more time at a more highly developed level than quarterbacks that are younger and don't play as many seasons in school. That also means that there is generally less expected future development because of their age, vast play experience, and the coaching that they have received.

 

I can not think of any examples of college QBs that played more than four seasons, had a 5th year breakout, and then didn't blossom in the pros....just nothing comes to mind....not a thing.....dang!

Where is the development?

 

I'm not a big Beck fan but he was a starter for only three seasons, and he did play well enough to lead his team to the championship game last season.

 

I don't know anything about NCAA QBs because I don't watch college.

But I like QBs who use athleticism to buy time and make throws over running.

I think I remember Ward said something like this about Ben. "it's so nice to have a QB that keeps his eyes down field when he breaks the pocket."
