well....the Packers went from Legend to Legend to a PRETTY GOOD QB....w Love.....but they had their down years for a couple seasons.

The Ravens - sure, the too Lamar.

The Bills.....they sucked for YEARS.....before Allen. The were at .500 of worse for YEARS.

The Chiefs.....they too were very average for years before Pat Mahomes.....from 2007 to 2014, they were below .500 for several years. They of course, has A Smith as a band aid for a few years.

I am not saying we have to TANK, but we WILL NOT COMPETE for a title with Rodgers UNLESS this D is Top 5.

then he can be a game manager........

and the BEST there ever was, if that is the case.

Section 557 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 amended the statutes defining the agreement signed by midshipmen and cadets attending a military service academy and their resulting service obligations. These amendments authorize the secretaries of the military departments to transfer not more than three cadets or midshipmen from each academy who obtain employment in professional sports to the selected reserves as commissioned officers to participate in efforts to recruit and retain members of the armed forces.

They didnt really change the rules for Robinson. He was just under the height maximum for the naval academy when accepted. Then he kept on growing. He grew to the point of not being able to fit in a berth on a ship. So they gave him a desk job for a bit

I have a young friend who completed the academy and part of his training required a short stint on a submarine

    How could Robinson do that

That’s kind of where I was going

Although my use of “short stint” may not have been the best choice of words

    This.

There is a middle path that would let us prioritize medium term development over maximizing the chances of winning every game even though the ceiling for the team is a WB berth...where we only win if we get something like 2x DTDs (for, not against).

Doesn't mean we have to trade any player with trade value to get draft capital (i.e., full tank).

But Rooney seems terrified of the idea of finishing any worse than 8th in the conference. Even though it means we turn into something that caps out as an upgraded version of the Bills between Kelly and Allen.

In both 2019 and 2020, GB made it to the Conference Championships.
Rodgers in his prime. Maybe a quality player away from going to the SB.
Instead, the team decides to use their 2020 1st round pick on Love. Someone who this past season led the 15th ranked offense, ended the regular season with 4 consecutive losses, followed by a WC loss to the Bears despite having a +2 turnover differential and a 21-3 halftime lead.

Umm...I don't want to start a fight. Your posts are great.

But I was there when Robinson and McCallum were there. I was in the middle of all that. In 2nd Regiment, 4th Battalion, 24th Company. I see them at Homecomings.
In Robinson's case specifically, his sentence was reduced in order to promote the USNA thru his sports achievements. I'm pretty sure.

Too big for a ship? Navy finds naval assignments for those with disqualifying conditions...color blind sent to supply corps, Robinson was sent to Civil Engineering Corps, etc. The Navy gets their pound of flesh out of you. But Robinson got special treatment the rest of us didn't get.

BTW, Nap walks pretty well considering the nasty injury he suffered. I couldn't watch the tv replays of his injury. It was nasty. But he's getting around pretty well, walks normally. Thank goodness. God bless 'em.

Interesting how closely our paths came. By the way you, just affirmed my statement with “ navy finds naval assignments for those with disqualifying conditions” comment. Which is what’s the navy did. Whether or not they had a secondary motive is another conversation.

I thought that had actually been his goal, to serve on a submarine, which ended when he grew past the height limit.

Used to call that the Jeff Fisher zone.

Steelers need a bold/risky move to shift the dynamic. Sitting back and waiting for things to come to them is simply not gonna work.

Rams, Chiefs, Bills - all traded up to get their guy to try and jump out of the muddled middle. Other teams did it by making a risky coach hire.

He was like 5’9” as junior in HS,grew to 6’6” in a year. By the time he graduated fron the academy he was 7’1”. Which is well over the max 6’8”
