Farewell to an old message board

I don't know if this is allowed, but I wanted to acknowledge a message board that many have migrated from in the past six months or so as it slowly and painfully deteriorated. I've been checking in occasionally and it looks like it is finally done. There were a lot of good years there (and a lot bad ones too ) but looks like an era is done.

 

And that message board is?

 

Planet Steelers. I came from there as well. Glad to have found this one, which works far better.

I miss the old Sporting News message boards in the late 90's/early 00's. All 31 teams (before Texans) had a message board... and it was fun to troll other teams message boards. Of course, the Steelers message board was at times overrun with Ravens, Jaguars and Titans fans talking smack. It was the late 90's and Steelers weren't very good... but it was freakin' hilarious. Very little moderation... "wild west" of message boards. Some of the funniest sh!t I've ever seen was smack between Eagles and Bucs fans. They weren't even in the same division... but the hatred was real. The Donovan McNabb vs Warren Sapp days.

Word to the wise, never try to update a football website right before the draft with an inexperienced web head.

That site couldn’t get right after the update. No pasting, no links and no paragraphs by the time it died.

 

I piss on their messages board. LoL. This is the only Steelers messages board I've been on since the old board.

 

You all need to royally thank TTF (Steve) for setting up this wonderful site and continuing to manage and SUBSIDIZE it's presence. Some here have helped from time to time but not nearly enough. Hint hint. Thank you Steve! I promise to share 10% of my inevitable Tariff rebate with you.

I miss (bad word) LeBeau days on the old Steelers official board.

 

They would replace LeBeau's first name with "Wickerbasket"

 

I came from the Planet Steelers board, too. Sad story, that place... died a slow, painful death from neglect.

 

Ive visited there. This board is easier to work with. Boards in general have much more advertising and pop ups than before. SF was a great board back in the day, little to no advertising, had many good posters who are mostly long gone.

 

Once upon a time there was also Stillernation. I believe it died also.

 

Those other sites probably died from lack of financial support

I started this message board thing with Gil's. It was a good start but faded. I believe METALMAN_68 took over after Gil's? A few more around the way which I would check out but didn't become a member. Glad i'm a part of this thing.

 

This board just works, and works well. Best performing board I've been on. The only thing I miss from Planet Steelers is the black background / gold text. Not only was it Steelers-themed, but it was easy on my eyeballs too.

 

There was a message board many years ago that supported all team fans. For me, that was a great format due to having grown up in an area that had no pro sports, we had fans for all the teams. I can't remember the name though. It folded about a year or so after I found it.
