What 9s everyone’s opinion on the roster after FA? What and where do we need to add? What positions can stand to be upgraded besides the obvious holes like QB and Left Guard?

I believe obviously we need a franchise QB but I’m ok going with Rodgers and Howard as the backup this year.

I would like to see us bring James Daniel’s back on a one year prove it deal if we can. Then draft a guy early as in first three rounds.

we need to add a slot receiver to compete against Wilson and another recover for depth and to backup Metcalf and Pittman.

I am excited about our defense on the perimeter both against the pass and the run with our edges and Dean and Porter at outside cb. I still think there is opportunity on the interior of the defense. We need to look for a large run stuffer to strictly pay early down nose. I’m not saying draft one in the first three rounds but maybe spend a fourth on Dontae Corleone or go sign Dj Reader.

Benton can play nose in -assign situations but would primarily be a rotational piece to backup Heyward and Harmon. This would help everyone. It would keep Heyward and Harmon fresh and protect the ilb’s having a larger NT in on early downs to keep them clean.

We also need to look at drafting an ilb within the first three rounds. -referably someone with better instincts who can wear the green dot and qb the defense. I don’t think queen is a green dot guy. He is a great athlete who either lacks instincts or under prepares and doesn’t watch a lot a film as he seems better being the Robin to someone elses Batman. Perhaps getting a true leader on defense at Ilb and having a true NT in front of these guys we could see them both flourish.

We also need to figure out the slot cb position. It has become a very important position in today’s nfl that can really impact defensive play. I think Ramsey can do a lot of the slot work successfully especially against the run and blitzing, but does he have enough in the tank in coverage? He can handle Te’s and Rb’s but shifty small slot receivers he might struggle with especially in man coverage. I would like to see us get a fast twitchy glue guy in coverage we can sub in from a matchup standpoint against teams with quick shifty slot receivers ie. Kirk in the Houston game last year.

Finally we need to draft a legit free safety. Right now we seem to be three deep at Strong Safety.

Get back to me after April 25th. As it stands, too much time between now and April to judge really anything on the team building process; one that is still incomplete.

    1. I think O line needs to be a top priority. We know we need a starting LG, and we may need a starting tackle. The FO has added plenty of depth, but if they’re thinking Spencer Anderson is a capable starter then I think they’re creating a weak link in protection. Also, while I like what Cook did filling in for Jones, I still think he looked more like a depth guy than a guy you hand the keys to the QB’s blind side.

    2. I’d like to upgrade the nickel. Keonte Scott from Miami played the nickel at a high level and may be available with our 2nd round pick. Also, if Ponds is available in the 2nd he’ll almost certainly be my BPA at that point. He’s played outside, but his tough playing style projects well to the nickel. To me he would be very much similar to Mike Hilton near the LOS, but actually be able to cover WRs. If he were 2 inches taller, he’d be a Top 20 pick easily.

As for our current roster, Samuel may be capable of playing the nickel purely in coverage on passing downs, but I don’t see him affecting the LOS or blitzing. And who knows what the plan is for Ramsey. He played a little bit of everything last year, and made some big plays as a nickel.

    3. 3rd WR. Not much to say about this that hasn’t been said repeatedly.

    4. ILB - I don’t have much confidence in our ILB corps, but there is talent there. If we can get one of the good ones Day 2, that would be great.

    5. Free safety - I guess that will be Brisker or Ramsey this year, so maybe not a Day 1 priority.

    6. D Line - we are probably pretty set for 2026, but if there’s an opportunity for a big upgrade I would consider it, even in the 1st round.

We need a left guard. Possibly a left tackle. At least one more wide receiver. Preferably a slot receiver. A defensive lineman(a pass rusher). A punt/kick returner. A tight end/fullback

we need a Superbowl win-- and we need the players to get us one---that is all we need ---players who want a Superbowl more than anything and will play harder than anyone to get it-- Because I sure don't want the Patriots getting it before we do :good:

With 12 picks what needs they have they should have no problem filling them, although I expect them to only make maybe nine picks. Anybody they sign at this point in free agency will likely be bottom of the roster depth.

Dosregarding the obvious need at qb, I think their biggest need is slot wr and nothing else is remotely close.

If you look at who they would have starting today in the slot, it's Roman Wilson who they haven't even been willing to give a shot on a depleted wr core.

Every other position on the roster at least has someone or multiple someone's with starting caliber play.

After slot wr, then the next biggest holes are to provide competition or to draft a guy that can be the guy when one of the pending free agents leave. Think MLB, OL, DL, Safety, and CB.

I really like our CB room. Porter, Dean, Samuel, Ramsey (yes I like him), echols is the best CB room I've seen in the last decade.

ILB is a big need probably not being talked about enough. I wouldnt be surprised if that will be one of their first two picks.

All the obvious holes have been talked about; WR, Guard, Safety, and of course Qb. I think we can also use a FB. MM has used them quite a bit in GB and Dallas. I was always puzzled why Tomlin didnt. We had a couple good ones in D Watt and Heyward Jr, but made little use of them.

28 year old James Daniels, Interesting idea. I did find a fan thanking Daniels for his 3 snaps in 2025 :lolol:

Seems like a weird situation: Injured in Week 1 with a Pec Injury; and the head coach saying every week that Daniels was almost ready to return to the field. Kind of reminds me of the whole Zach Banner ending here in Pittsburgh.

What to Make of Dolphins Cutting James Daniels
However, toward the end of the season, McDaniel started to sound less encouraged by Daniels’ possible return to action. When he was asked about whether Daniels suffered a setback, McDaniel said that wasn’t it.

We might never be 100% sure why Daniels never returned, but it’s odd to see a team say a player will return, maintain that the player didn’t have a setback, and then not see that player get back into the lineup.

We're in good enough shape to not have to reach for any particular position.

QB - We obviously need one for the future, but we can use 2026 to see what we have in Howard and then decide if we want to go that route in 2027. There could be 7-8 QB's good enough to go first round next year.

RB - We likely wont draft one until day 3. We will have a few roster bubble RB's from last year, Johnson, and whoever we pick battling it out for RB3. RB1a/b are set.

WR - Our top 2 WR's are set, but we still don't have a slot. My guess is that we take a slot WR and an outside WR this year. Skowronek will be on the squad for ST and deep depth. Wilson might hang onto a roster spot agian, we will see.

TE - Need a TE 3. Thats about it.

OL - I don't think a Jones/Cook battle is the worst thing in the world at LT, though we could go that route in the draft if the right guy falls. LG is another area to watch somewhere in day 2 sounds perfect. Let that rookie compete with Anderson for the starting role. We have quality depth pretty much everywhere on the OL though.

DL - We solidified the middle a bit, but could still draft a good young player. We actually have incredibly good depth, though it would be nice to find a high end player to pair with Harmon for the long run.

EDGE - Only position I don't see us going for

ILB - We will draft one somewhere. Gonna be in the first 3 rounds. Queen is the only starting capable player we have and his play has been too up and down for him to be paid what he is. Wilson doesn't seem capable to be an every down player and Harrison just kinda sucks. Not a good enough athlete to be anything more than a 2 down backer/ST player. Holcomb is coming back, but he's just insurance IMO.

CB - We got our CB 2 for the immediate future, but I would imagine we grab a developmental CB in there somewhere. We could definitely draft a starting slot CB too (Ponds is my favorite in that role).

S - We have short term deals on guys for now, but we likely need a starting S sooner rather than later.

I don't think we really "need" anything right now (outside of QB and LT: QB is obviously the thing we need most...will almost certainly be true after we figure out who our QB1 is too).

And since we're now at the bottom of the UFA barrel, even if we did need something it basically means we have to find it (1) at the draft or (2) after cut downs.

I hope the new wr coach can do something with Roman Wilson. Then our wr room would be set.

Guy was a college standout at Michigan. He should've been seeing more time. Wonder if personality conflicts with the previous coach had anything to do with lack of playing time (“couldn't grasp the playbook” doesnt sound right to me)

I see our needs as follows:

    Tier One (Primary Need):

    - Quarterback (QB)! A player who can develop into a top 15 NFL QB.

    Tier Two: Major needs.

    - DT/NT: Must be effective in both 3 and 4-man fronts and difficult to move off the line. A base run defender that helps keep our linebackers clean.

    - Inside Linebacker (ILB): A solid three-down player who is proficient against both the run and the pass. Pass coverage in our " soft middle " has been Steeler weakness for years.

    - Free Safety (FS)

    - A better stating Guard.

    Tier Three:

    - Third Wide Receiver (WR), DB depth, OT depth.

    - General roster depth.
