Well, the 2nd Cutch era in Pittsburgh comes to an inglorious end. The Pirates icon signs with Texas on a minor league deal.

I, like many others, felt that Andrew had reached the end, and really had no place on the Pirates moving forward. However, for it to end like this just doesn't feel right.

I don't pretend to understand the workings of a major league team, but it sure would have been more appropriate if they would have told Cutch last year that they would be moving on from him at seasons end, regardless of how the year worked out for him personally. He could have had a farewell game at PNC, and possibly even an appearance at Piratefest or whatever they call it. Then, if he wanted to continue his career elsewhere, at least he could have had a respectable farewell to the many fans he has.

As it stands, it appears the calamity of public relations failures continues, along with the Clemente foul pole and the Bucco bricks fiasco. Such a shame, considering all the good will they built up with the roster overhaul.

I don't consider it a great loss for the 2026 BUC team. Kind of sad he is going to a minor league team. Not sure why he just doesn't retire.

Just because he signed a minor-league deal doesn't mean he won't be in the majors when the season starts. I assume the Rangers think he at least has a shot at helping their major-league team this season.

True that. And I'm sure the role of DH will happen once in awhile. I know very little about the Rangers. I see they finished 2025 at that magical record the Pirates can't seem to achieve.

Taking a closer look, they probably want him as the right-handed half of a platoon with Joc Pederson at DH and a bench bat.

I read that he may split DH with Joc Pederson. May also get an occasional start in the OF
