I think it should be clear by now that Tomlin knew the margin for error in games this past season was going to be razor thin. He didn't want to end up losing games because of rookie mistakes. Hence, he loaded up on veteran players. Problem was most of those vets weren't good.
Steelers need to get back to their roots and develop their own talent instead of searching for it elsewhere. There is reason why that talent becomes available from elsewhere and usually that reason isn't because of great play.

I hope the new coaching staff can get some player development going not just for our new
draft choices but Benton, YA, Harmon and RB These players need to start contributing at a more productive level.

    Exactly.

Based on everything we have seen to this point $20 million and Broderick Jones just doesn't go together.

yeah they were really all in on a playoff run. Ive never seen the Steelers do what they did these past two seasons by signing all these past 30 vets. So i would assume they had less patience with the rookies than they did in years past. I agree They can develop the young talent and at the same time be competitive.

tomlin knew he was going to call it quits and tried to force a playoff run these past two seasons, to cement his legacy, just imho

I actually have always believed that Rooney had a lot to do with the hiring of our OCs.
Facts that are pretty much known.
Tomlin wanted to keep Bruce Arians, and Rooney got rid of him , and hired Hailey. Everyone says that Tomlin hired Canada, but if you dig into it....nobody knew Canada like Rooney did. So that's IMO 3 OCs fired, or hired off of Rooney.
