Gerry Dulac is reporting that the Steelers are replacing the Acrisure turf with a superior blend.

It looks like the Steelers are listening to the many complaints about the field at Acrisure. They plan on changing the current grass field to Tahoma 31 Bermuda grass. It's a mix of Bermuda and bluegrass that holds up to cold temperatures better and should be a better grass field.

It doesn't help the problem with so many games being played on the stadium turf, but it should hold up a little better.

    They had to try something.

i think they should go back to astro turf like in 3 rivers. toughen these high paid boys up. when men were men and sheep were scared. it was good enough for 4 super bowl wins. let the opponents really fear coming here to play. :smiley1::cool:

The field is the one area they should be investing in the most. Protect your million dollar investments, dont pinch pennies there.

    Easier said than done

Steelers and Pitt have a contract to play at the stadium until 2030

Wasn’t sharing it a condition of the public funding used to build it?

Unfortunately none of this is new news. Same old story. Same old battered field. You'd think it would be a high priority with the money they're bringing in.

I keep hoping for a better solution. This grass blend is used at some other stadiums and is superior to what they've been using and it does better in cold weather as well. I'm sure the heavy use of the field is still going to be an issue, but hopefully this helps some.

I’ve done some quick research and can’t find anything definitive

But the use of public funds was certainly more palatable with Pitt involved

Keep in mind the Steelers don’t own the stadium they are only a tenant just like Pitt

The stadium is owned by The Sports And Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh

They normally replace it every year right after thanksgiving

This year they did it sooner possibly because of schedule

They need time for the field to set and take root but in 2025 they had a home game November 30
