Just my opinion for now. I think McCarthy was brought in to help build this roster. I think he will have a lot of say in player personnel. With all the young, up and coming coaches available, the Steelers went with the 62 year old. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.

I agree with your statement when you posted you think OK has drafted well, above average. But his FA moves have been less than good. Hopefully he gets better.

What, in your evaluation, is one of MM roster building accomplishments?

    I can’t think of one.

I don't know Mike McCarthy as well as you. I never paid attention to the Packers or the Cowboys. I do know that McCarthy is considered a pretty good offensive minded coach around the league. He has a reputation for developing QBs. And this is his 3rd HC job. So if you want specifics and details to systematically pick apart this morning, I don't have any. BUT, if you have a different reason why the Steelers hired a 62 year old on a 5 year contract to be the HC over much younger and also well respected applicants, go ahead and throw it out there. I'll listen. I even said I was only stating my current opinion.

Clearly, he won a SB with Mike Sherman's players....

MM was likely hired because he was the only candidate who told Rooney what he wanted to hear. That he was going to win ASAP with the current roster.

    Maybe?

MM two signature accomplishments in terms of player development are probably rebuilding Rodgers mechanics and developing Davante Adams into one of the best wideouts in football. Both worthy of coaching praise.

The Packers also seemed to be better than most at developing OL during MM tenure.

But the idea that he’s some player personnel guru is not supported.
