Why on earth would a boxer wear a hairpiece in the ring???
Everytime I say hairpiece, I think of Cheech and Chong.

So back in 2007 when the wife and I started dating one the first times I was introduced to her family was at Thanksgiving that year. Her dad found out I was a big Steelers fan and asked me if I knew who Ron Erhardt was. Now of course I did since he was one of Cowher's first Offensive Coordinators which was about the time I had gotten really into paying attention to football. So my father in law says to me that Erhardt had told him "Doppler you're the best football player Ive ever seen." Now I thought he was just giving me a hard time because he was like that, he liked to joke about things plus I was dating his daughter so yeah didn't think anything more about it. Well when he passed away last July that memory came up and I decided to do some research. Turns out Ron Erhardt did coach football at St. Mary's in Bismarck ND which is where my father in law had grown up, went to school and started college. So it's totally possible that Erhardt had said that to him and now left to wonder how much truth there was in that story. Anyway thought it was a neat OC story.

    MM's last season in Dallas:

    11 personnel: 71%
    12 personnel: 11%
    21 personnel: 8%

    Steelers 2025 season:

    11 personnel: 39%
    12 personnel: 25%
    13 personnel: 14% [#2 in the NFL]

The only way the Steelers will run more 11 personnel is if they can find another WR.

What I don't understand is why the Steelers didn't run more 21 or 22 personnel having two RBs that excel in the passing game and are decent enough as rushers. A positive sign is that MM did run that grouping in Dallas at a good rate. Assuming Warren/Gainwell combo are back I could see this as a part of the offense.

I'm not sure that would have been an option for the Ravens because that would have been a lateral move for Minter.

    I was curious.

Reading this, it is a long time coming for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Someone that the Steelers should have hired a decade ago.

Some NFL coaches are appointing "game-management" coaches on game day, and college coaches should take note
    By Doug Samuels

In the NFL, the need for one guy to look ahead and handle all game-management type scenarios including challenges, whether plays are even challengeable or not, in-game scenarios, and issues like clock management is becoming more and more common.

New Tampa Bay Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter has been an offensive coordinator in the NFL since 2007, and was a college head coach at Boise State and Arizona State prior to that, and now, as a first-time head coach in the NFL, Koetter sees a tremendous amount of value in having a dedicated game-management coach.

"Because I'm going to stay as the play-caller, and there are plenty of guys in the NFL who stay as play-callers as head coaches," Koetter told Bleacher Report in a Q&A recently. "There are just so many situations that come up in an NFL game, whether it's clock management or just game-ending situations, to have someone that they're fully dedicated to that preparation in leading up to the game and on game day made sense."

"When I was the offensive coordinator, if I was up in the box, we always had a designated coach on the field that if I said, 'This situation is up' and the head coach was on the other side of the phones talking to the defensive staff, that coach on the field would go remind the head coach about this or that," Koetter added. "There is so much pressure when that clock is ticking, you have to have somebody who is on top of that and looking ahead."

For Koetter and the Bucs organization, that game-management coach is Andrew Weidinger, who has been in the NFL for nearly 10 years and currently holds the title of offensive quality control coach in Tampa Bay. He's a guy that Koetter is familiar with, and whom he trusts a great deal.

On game days, a head coach is bombarded with thousands and thousands of different decisions, so while a number of college coaches already have a someone they trust to serve a as sounding board for big decisions and during crunch time, this is something that I can see a lot of coaches adopting at the college level as well.

Imagine the value of getting a veteran like Frank Beamer, Gary Pinkel, Jim Grobe, Mack Brown, or Bobby Bowden on board as your game-management guy on game day to bounce an idea off during pivotal moments, and to help you think two steps ahead as the game progresses. With athletic directors leaning toward hiring young coaches, this would be especially valuable for those guys getting their first shot with a college program.

Love the path MM is taking with the staff. We’ll see if it nets different results but refreshing to see an effort to improve on coaching and not just “I can do it all myself” approach.

Has MM had a game day coach before? If not, then I guess it can help. If so, particularly in Green Bay, I can tell you it’s been wildly ineffective.

I’m telling you, I watched a great deal of MM Packers tenure and bizarre timeouts, weird challenge calls, and perplexing time management were on par with the things that drove people nuts about the Tomlin era Steelers.

Didn’t someone post here that it was 3 more coaches? That just means MM has three more friends than MT.

I think MM is up to 25 or 26 coaches now. I think Tomlin was around 19 last season but in general his staffs fluctuated between 18-23.

More importantly it’s what he is adding.

    Chief of staff
    Expanded strength and conditioning
    Analytics
    Defensive pass game coordinator
    Game manager
I think he has added assistants to the Oline coaching staff as well.

Theres no passing game coordinator listed but thats probably because Angelichio held that title with the Vikings and will probably add that to his responsibilities here considering MM is the defacto OC.

Under Tomlin, there was also an assistant OL Coach as well. Was that way since 2019 I believe; perhaps earlier. I do agree though that the increase in not just size but also titles is interesting. I would say encouraging but I have to see the results play out.
