QBs Who Played in a SB

Breakdown on % of drafted QBs that played in a Superbowl beginning with 1955 draft class.

Notes;

• QBs that played in multiple SBs were counted as 1 in the round drafted. E.g. Brady appeared in 10 SBs was drafted in the 6th round but counts as one 6th round SB QB.
• Bar #s indicate # of QBs drafted in that round since 1955; vertical axis is % of QBs who played in a SB for the indicated round.
• Rd18 is a bit distorted because only 8 QBs were drafted in that round over the years but one actually made it to the SB, 1/8 or 12.5%. Joe Kapp playing for Vikes in 1970. Same applies for Rd17 where 24 QBs were picked and one (Starr) reached the SB.
• After the round one dropoff, rounds 2 & 3 have roughly the same chance of playing in a SB
• Roughly, 80% of Rd1 QBs don't make it to a SB, then the odds drop in half after Rd1, then half again after Rd3, and so on.
• The chance of a very late round QB playing in a SB is not zero! But I wouldn't put a lot of money on them in Vegas.
• Interesting the # of late round fliers that are taken by teams, most likely for backup chances or TC fodder.
• There have been two undrafted QBs who played in a SB.

 

So, you're saying we need to draft a QB in the first in the near term! If we're not gonna have a losing season to draft there, better keep stockpiling those trade picks!
