Me. I just think the kid sucks...

I wanted to like him as a player (Ohio guy, lots of arm talent, prototypical size), but when I watched him play I almost never came away impressed (and usually the opposite). He pretty much looks wild with his accuracy, clunky out of phase, and misses easy plays that he should never miss... but then there's like 1-2 throws in there where you go "wow, okay... yeah, that was really good".

There's two stats that really turn me off on Allar being a good player down the line. He had a really below the line "on target" rate for throws under 10 yards. These are the throws you work on all the time, and are what keep drives going by winning in phase. He was considered "on target" 6% less than the average college QB on these throws. The other is 49.1%, which is his completion percentage in 2024 and 2025 in his losses (and coincidentally against the best competition he faced), while only throwing for 177 yards per game in those games. When facing good defenses, he folded. It got a bit better in 2025 in his 3 losses completing 65% of his passes (Oregon, UCLA, Northwestern), though the only good team he faced in those 3 losses was Oregon and he completed 56% of his passes in that one. He threw for 158 yards a game in those games.... It wasn't pretty. Shoot, even in the CFP where they won 2 games and almost got to the championship game he threw for 54% completion and 144 yards per game in those games. He simply was awful when the games mattered or when the competition stiffened. That scares me when projecting him as a player at the next level.

I wanted to see him have a big year this past year to solidify himself and he looked pretty mid to start the year. Then he got hurt... Idk. I'm not saying its out of the realm of possibility that he develops into a starter. He's just a big, multi year project. In the right place... maybe (and maybe even Pittsburgh is the right place with McCarthy). But I don't really love him as a prospect. Some team will fall in love with the size/arm combo and draft him way ahead of where he should be. I think you're dead on that he's going in round 2 or 3... I just hope it isn't to us. If you look at him as a player and not as the "toolset", he's a day 3 prospect.

I say no. What a disappointing player for all of that natural talent.

He and Carson Beck are the only two QBs I would considering drafting for the Steelers in the entire draft; Fernando Mendoza included. Drew's confidence needs to be brought back while Beck was built for the sole purpose of playing in the West Coast. Coincidentally enough, rhythm based timing Offenses is where Allar can definitely earn a good portion of his confidence back considering he was on the upswing again until his end against Northwestern.

Side Note to all: PC is finally fixed!! Still applying firmware but I do hope to have the Top 32 Big Board by Saturday!! :herewego:

Here's what we have under contract for next season.... Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. If Allar is an upgrade to that room, I'm for it. If he doesn't upgrade that room, I'm against it. I'm only rooting for laundry at this point in this process.

Im still in on Drew, just not in the first rd.

Wouldn’t be crazy about a 2nd being used, 3rd is the sweet spot.

He also has decent mobility and a good arm.

When will Drew Allar return from injury? Will he workout this offseason? I doubt he will be running full speed or making good split times. What about his throwing and footwork mechanics? The tape is not good. These workouts may not raise his status. Any thoughts?

When would you draft Allar? To me the 4th round comp pick we’re assuming we’ll get is a point where he may be worth the lottery ticket pick. Before then, meh.

I would take the chance in the Third Round if there are no other remaining options. Drew does have four years of inconsistency at college experience but he is still only 22. There is still much for him to learn; doubly so since Penn State's history of developing QBs has been... lackluster.. to say the least.

Given Mike's history along with Drew's improvement while playing in rhythm?! He is worth at least a look via a Combine meeting along with a Pre Draft Visit.
