I think it depends when they want to become current on the cap gains.

IIRC, last time it happened while Dan was still alive and Art I had been dead for a while. Could be misremembering though.

    Interesting. Thanks

I hope that law change protects them, but I wonder if there's some cap on the size of the business (e.g. OK for a family farm, but an NFL team is with a **** ton).

It would be a shame if the Rooney's got squeezed out because of taxes.

In a nutshell, yes, I am excited to not see those OC/DC guys... and I think change might impact my view on the roster.
But I still see Omar as a limitation. Maybe that changes...

    Roughly I view him as:

Rules - I am going to hold him to 2022 but keep in mind it is weighted (Omar has actually been involved with drafts for some time also)
Also of note, there is no doubt Omar could have moved up/down to take advantage of available impact players and snag positional needs.... he gets a solid F for ability to make deals that position the team for best players.
Also of Note again - Opinions on these players vary. My opinion is just that. I do think that different coaching may directly improve any/each player. A lot of woes came from coaching and that makes me unwilling to engage is some player evaluations, they are fluid and could change.

    2022 Bombs
    - Kenny Picket - Total waste, bad handling, just an awful/disastrous situation.
    - George Pickens - Probably say same. But he did produce near 1,000 yards.
    - Demarvin Leal - 9 games in 2 years?
    - Chris Oladokum - What? Wasted a pick.
    - Mark Robinson - Zero

    2022 - Decent picks
    - Calvin Austin - so-so.
    - Connor Heyward - Special Teams and versatile blue-collar guy. So-so

    2023 Bombs
    - Corey Trice - 7th round pick but has contributed much.

    2023 - others
    - Broderick Jones - Has not really lived up to his potential. Maybe a Trent Williams type as he has basically same skills. Williams wasn't worth a dime first 2 years. We actually did better without Jones in 25.
    - Joey Porter Jr - Sometimes brilliant, sometimes a flag magnet. I think he'll pan out as a good pick.
    - Keeanu Benton - They were looking for a NT and picked for position with the likes of Chris Mims, Jayden Reed and Tuli Tuipuloto on the board. Probably a reach.
    - Darnell Washington - The Truck. A specialty player... Blue Collar blocking TE that can catch. Injuries are a concern.
    - Nick Herbig - A 4th round selection, has proven to be a working guy. Good selection and great value.
    - Spencer Anderson - versatile and for a 7th round selection, a good value. Contributes in various ways.

    2024 - Bombs
    - Troy Fautanu - I'm not sure he made a single block in the playoff appearance. Came with a lot of promise but injuries limit him and he's been mediocre to awful for the 20th pick. There were better players on the board. Maybe we get a return with a change in coaching.
    - Roman Wilson - WTF? He can't even get on the field and doesn't seem to be dedicated to the discipline of the playbook. Zero attempt at any trade to move up for better and could have selected a BPA.
    - Ryan Watts - not in the NFL.

    2024 - Others
    - Zach Fraiser - Was listed as a little bit of a reach but has done a wonderful job, not gold standard but getting better. A winner selection.
    - Payton Wilson - A little undersized and struggled with the run some. Good speed and as a 3rd rd selection, seems like he adds value to the team in rotations.
    - Mason McCormick - He is a starter and seems to play solid. Good value for a 4th rd selection.
    - Logan Lee - He's a 6th and has been a rotational player. Incomplete but a work in progress.

    2025 - Bombs
    - Derrick Harmon - Certainly presented very well and has flashed but a 21th selection he is not playing well. Injuries and disappearing at times. Maybe new coaching and a good DC will tap his potential as it seems like he has the skills to be great.
    - Kaleb Johnson - 3rd round RB. When you have Warren and Gainwell in front of you, it's tough to find a spot. He gave us 69 yards, a boneheaded kick return, and 9 yards receiving. Maybe new coaching taps into his collegian running skills? Incomplete

    2025 - others
Jack Sawyer - For a 4th rd selection, he seems to be able to contribute.
Yahya Black - A Blue-collar selection, seems to be a guy to be in the rotation maybe with starter potential.
    Will Howard - Incomplete.
Carson Bruener - Too small. Blue-collar guy but probably should switch to Safety or something... 7th round pick so no high expectations.
Derrick Harmon - Injures and mediocre outings make him list both as a boom or bust... he has shown talent but has not tapped it.

Given that old man Rooney was open to running it back with Tomlin for a 20th season, the shareholders should be pushing for him to step down and allow someone capable to represent the fanbase and the city.

You really have to give it to the Pats, Ravens, and Bills ownership for actually having balls. Wish our owner did ..

Yeah, going to be a real let down, when the Steelers get a 1st round pick for Tomlin when he finally comes back to coaching. :hehehe:

Wow, sorry man, most of that is over the top harsh grading and you included two drafts he wasnt even the GM. Pickett was driven by Colbert wanting to leave the Steelers set up for the future, he swung and missed badly. To try and attach that to Khan in any way clearly shows your bias in grading these players.

Harmon? Probably the most shocking grade, the run defense was Swiss cheese without him. Would be quicker for me to list the misses than hits:

    Roman Wilson.

Just going to have to agree to disagree. Every one of his drafts have been solid. You even included Watts as a bomb, freaking guy suffered a career ending neck injury, how is that on Khan.

Disagree with at least a handful of your opinions. But that's just me.

Yes and am harsh, but I did leave open that maybe new coaching changes this.
    I did preface it with
Omar has been involved for some time... but it is weighted.

Harmon is a massive disappointment. He had zero or little impact in a lot of games.
I think the potential is there.
Omar's drafts are highlighted with Blue-Collar picks.
He makes zero effort to wheel and deal to get impact players but rather just looks at need and positions.
    Maybe that too changes.

I've maintained that to me, he is at best mediocre.
This is a good year to prove things wrong. A new coach is going to really drive for a solution at WR and QB.
And as much as I would like to minimize Free Agency, he has to work it some.
The Cap is a little out of hand too.
So, there's a lot of proving ground ahead of him.

I always thought Art was to blame for the Pickett draft, not wanting to make the same mistake the original Art Rooney did with Dan Marino. I thought Tomlin and Colbert were more in on Malik Willis that year.

Now, I will be probably one of few people that still believe that the GM and Coach did well on the Kenny Pickett draft, because they spent only their original 1st round pick on a Bust of a QB. Watching the 49ers give up 3 first round picks for Trey Lance the year before, I feared the Steelers would be using multiple 1st round picks to move up, so they could draft Pickett earlier.

I think we got Payton Wilson with the Kenny Pickett trade.
