I want balance. Most teams still in it have good defense but equally good offenses. Whomever it is has to hire a whole staff. It's got to be someone that the staff added can work comfortably with and together. Flores is a good DC but as a head coach much of that can be diluted by other responsibility.

That would be great if the goal is to go 0-17.

Maybe the goal is to convince everyone that they are hiring McCarthy so when they choose Flores everyone can say "Oh well it could have been worse, it could have been McCarthy!"

Looks like it is coming down to Shula or Flores. I'd prefer Shula.

Incorrect. The locker room believes in Mason, Mason is proven with the Steelers, he believes in himself, the locker room will rally around McCarthy and the coaching staff, they will have Super Bowl as the goal, it will be a tight ship with direction.

If the plan is to roll with Rudolph, the ship’s direction will resemble that of the Titanic after its navigation plan was edited by the iceberg.

You can't have "Mason as the starter" and "Super Bowl as the goal" in the same paragraph. They don't belong together. If we're rolling with Mason, we are using him as a bridge before we draft our QB of the future. The team likes and believes in him, but the reality is that he isn't a starting level player. He is better than Pickett, but worse than Wilson or Rodgers.

Imaging setting your organization back just so you can lure a 43 year old QB with diminished skills to play for you.

Odds are so weird. There are multiple guys on that odds list that we haven't even spoken to ahead of guys that we have.

Really hope it's Shula at this point. The retread momentum is disconcerting.

If this is the direction, 2026 is lost and the future will be adversely affected. Would the organization be this dumb?

Then you go wait for Mahomes or Allen to become available, or roll with Howard to see what you have and waste everyone's time in the locker room.
Unlike you and Tomlin, McCarthy is not a name chaser. He is a passer chaser, name does not matter. He will look at it and know, just like Holmgren.

Let’s hope they are looking at him as an OC but then they are going against what they said about letting the next HC build the staff without any interference.

Well, then if we bring in McCarthy we may see Mason be cut based on McCarthy’s ability to “know.”

It's not wasting anyone's time? If we don't like this year's group of QB's (I don't) then we have to wait until next year. You can still win games with a "bridge" QB, while still understanding that this specific QB isn't good enough to win you the ultimate prize (SB).

How is rolling with Howard (or some other "bridge" option) wasting the locker room's time and going with Mason Rudolph as the starter not wasting their time? Rudolph is a known sh*tty QB. Why on earth should that be our go to plan?

What do you mean "passer chaser" instead of "name chaser". You're going to act like McCarthy has had anything other than high end names at QB for his entire career? Favre, Rodgers, and Dak are the guys he's coached... But he's going to fall in love with a middling 30 year old back up? If McCarthy gets hired, we have a much better chance of starting Rodgers than Rudolph..

I'm not buying that it seemed like McCarthy and Rodgers didn't get along that well before he got fired.
