The roster is old and expensive as heck for defense. The o line is average at best. No qb . No second wr.
Run game non existent. D cant stop anyone unless the turn ball over.
Total overhaul needed. Trade TJ or anyone that has value and bottom out and get some high level talent.

Feel like new scheme could fix the OL, running game and defense. Sure there is necessary turnover and holes to fill, but I don't think it is as bad as people make it out to be.

I'm all for a bottoming out for a year or two and hopefully hitting on a QB. Could very well be a quick reset.

You want to see a confident head coach with a plan. A coach able to hire his own coordinators. A coach who relies on good coordinators and doesn't try to impose a conservative philosophy on them.

A down year or two is to be expected. But I also think it should be realistic to expect at least a competitive playoff game by year 3 or 4.

What I don't want to see or hear is that, "we're gonna get back to running the ball / "Steelers football" ". We don't need 1970's thinking. Of course, you need to be able to run the ball. But if you're going to win anything in the modern NFL, you have to be able to throw and you have to be able to scheme and use analytics.

The standard is the standard. We need a new coach that doesn't have losing seasons.

I'm thinking this SB could be like some of the ones in the 80's. NFC winning by 20-30 points. And if it's the Pats getting an ass whipping I'll enjoy it.

I'd love for Broncos be who they faced.

Maybe Vrabel will channel his inner Mike Tomlin and lose to a no name QB in a big game.

Unless Stidham pulls a Nick Foles, the whole country - minus the Boston area - will unite behind the NFC (likely the Seahags). I seriously cannot stomach another Pats* super bowl. Kraft must have done a deal with the devil to still be sittin' pretty in the NFL.

Steelers will not be patient with the new coach. Steelers will fire him very quickly if he is a losing coach.
Steelers' tradition of staying with head coaches is tied to the their success.
Expectation for the new head coach is playoff wins, around 0.500 in his first year depending on the roster would buy him another year.

I think the Steelers will be patient with the new Head Coach. That's their style. Yes, they've been lucky that Cowher and Tomlin both had success early on. But stability is the Steelers way. They might not give the new HC a decade-long leash but they're not firing someone in year 3 unless the guy commits a crime LOL.

I don't think so. The Steelers' style is to be competitive and win. They are patient only if you win and are competitive, then they are patient with the Super Bowl goal. The Steelers are not patient if you are 7-9.

Exactly. Imagine if they fired Chuck Noll after his first three seasons of winning one game then 5 and then 6.

Steelers will hire a winning coach, they will roll with Mason, they will not start a rookie to see how it goes and what they have in him, they will compete for the division, they will win the division, and they will compete in the playoffs in 2026 for the Super Bowl. That's Steelers' style.

I will be surprised and disappointed if they "roll with Mason" in 2026. And if they do, I'd be willing to bet we're not winning the division nor seriously competing in the playoffs.

Maybe that was Tomlin's style but it needs to not be the "Steelers' style". And I don't think the next coach will be required to follow that style.

Incorrect. That was not Tomlin's style. Tomlin's style was to roll with NFL 4-years starters who have failed to deliver on contract. Mike McCarthy's style is to roll with a good passer, it's the Holmgren style, it's the Bill Walsh style.

My expectations will vary drastically depending on the coach we hire. If we hire someone that has been a HC before (McCarthy or Flores) then my leash with them is much shorter. You hire someone like that for a quicker turn around and a more "seamless" transition. These guys don't need to learn to be a HC at this level, since they've already been one, and likely wouldn't be implementing drastically new age systems. I'd expect them to be relatively competitive right away. Quickly build a roster, install new systems, hire good coordinators, and get this team winning games and competitive for a playoff win by year 2. If they turn in back to back losing seasons, I simply can them and move onto a younger option.

If we hire a younger, first time coach, then I am giving them a longer leash to develop. They will likely also be fighting an uphill battle getting a new "modern" system implemented and that doesn't happen overnight. I would hope they are competitive for a playoff win by year 3, but would probably give them a good 4 years before even thinking about firing them.

We've had similar and have gotten punked by Tim Tebow and Blake Bortles. Patriots went 4-13 each of their last two seasons with pretty much the same roster. The only difference....... the Coach. Turned them into winners instantly. They beat the teams that they should've. Unlike our steelers under Tomlin, who lost against guys like Terrell Pryor and Shadeur Sanders during the season. Coaching does make a difference.
