I know Brady isn't a current candidate for the Steelers, but I really liked the game he called vs. Denver today. I am sure Josh Allen makes an OC look great, but Brady's play-calling helped overcome the turnovers, until the last one.

If I was in his position, I would try to position myself to go to a quality organization and not settle for a bad team where success is near impossible.

I think it shows confidence and guts if this is true. I would feel even better about him if he is willing to go back to being a DC rather than going to a garbage organization and potentially wasting what might be his only opportunity at a head coaching position.

I don't see a lateral move. The Rams are competing for a championship and coordinators on teams going deep into the playoffs get opportunities.

I guess you never know. The other thing is that if they hire Scheelhaase, Shula may be someone that can come with him if he likes the opportunity, but it's probably a long shot.

Why does he need more time as a coordinator to be a HC? But the DC for McVey and the Rams is not a lateral move to DC for the Steelers with a rookie HC.

If we want Shula, we will have to hire him as the HC. I'd be a fan of the hire. Fangio style defense and young. McVey tree, but obviously on the other side of the ball. Hopefully his time in LA would make him more likely to want a McVey style offense (or at least something more modern). What we've been forced to watch for the last decade on the offensive side of the ball has been freaking painful.

He's likely sought after enough to be picky. Why take the Browns job when you can get offered something better? He can always go back to LA as the DC for another season and be a top HC candidate again with a different slew of options with openings. Shula is going for one of the top openings in Baltimore or Pittsburgh. Maybe he'd be interested in his grandfather's old job too... Otherwise, go back to being a really good DC for a really good team and try again next season. There will be other options better than Cleveland, Arizona, or Tennessee.

Yeah, there's a lot to unbox here. I agree that the only way Shula comes here is as a head coach. That's when I believe that there is a chance that a guy like Scheelhaase may be a guy that would consider following Shula here and accepting a promotion to OC. If he is the offensive savant many are claiming, Shula would be a smart hire if he can bring a quality OC that runs the McVay offense with him.

There is a possibility to get two excellent coaches with the Shula hire if he believes in Sheelhaase and offers him the OC position.

It's fascinating to watch this play out.

Its possible. I'd love to see it happen if we did hire Shula, as I like Scheelhaase a lot (enough that I would be happy if we hired him as the HC as well). The ability to hire good coordinators (or simply being a guy that good coordinators want to come coach for) is high up on my want list from the next HC. Tomlin was atrocious with his coordinator hires (and it likely ended up costing us, and ultimately him, in the long run).

Overall we have a quality enough list of guys we're talking to. Honestly the only guy we're interviewing that I'd be disappointed to see us hire as the HC is Flores. I don't know everything there is to know about these candidates or anything, but its a good list of young and talented people.

I'm just like everyone else on this. I have no clue what' going to happen. I'm just speculating on what could happen if the direction they take is with Shula.

There is a good chance the two Super Bowl participants will be defensive head coaches with really good offensive coordinators.

So, at this point, I’m gonna predict that Chris Shula will end up being the next Pittsburgh Steelers head coach. Shula has the direct line to McVey’s tree to get a good offensive coordinator. And early reports say the next head coach will be the one to choose his staff. As it should be.

Well Payton (offensive), Mike McDonald (defensive), Vrabel (defensive), Ryans (defensive), McVey (offensive), Johnson (offensive). So 3 offensive and 3 defensive remain.

If Flores doesnt get the gig and we settle for some LA coordinator....we're in for a lot of bad seasons. Flores is Cowher part 2 and knows smash mouth football. Cold weather. Blitzes. Bring your lunch pail and get ready to get dirty. Cris Shula?....Scheelhaase?.....hot weather. Passing game.....wait, didnt the Rams just give up 31 to the Panthers in the wild card game and you want Chris Shula to be the new head coach?.....oh, man.....Lord help us.
