Too bad they hired an offensive coordinator that wasn't qualified, that didn't understand NFL offense, and a man that wouldn't deal with and communicate with the young quarterback directly. They forced the quarterback to learn and operate an offense that didn't work and all the horrible design built into it. He was trapped in a system that couldn't work. Andrew Luck may have failed if he was stuck in the same crap offense Pickett had to develop in with nobody to teach him how to properly play the position.

That is not a recipe for success.

Next thing you know a couple years go by, the quarterback is traded to another team because of the $hitshow, and the "young QB" is 27 years old bouncing around from team to team learning new offenses and playing behind more established quarterbacks just hoping to get a chance that may never come.

They cannot repeat the mistakes they made with Pickett. They need to do a better job evaluating who they draft, trade for, or sign as a free agent. Then they better have people in place to maximize the talents of that player, and an offensive system that is built around his strengths with the patience and ability to develop him with a long-term plan.

It's dumb to consider KP a bust. KP was a decent and a promising starter in his first 2 seasons in the NFL and was not a bust and was not considered a bust with the Steelers. Was he not around 0.500 for his first 20 games? He got injured at the end of his second seasons and Tomlin decided to stick with Mason to end that season since Mason was winning and Steelers were making a push for the playoffs. And the relationship soured, things blew up. Did he not request a trade or something along those lines?
It's dumb to call a that 20th pick a bust.

Stop, hes a bust. A big one. A first rd pick who may not even cut it as a backup is an epic bust.

You are protecting Tomlin and his bungling of the QB situation.

Tomlin doesnt coach Philly, Browns and Raiders. He wouldnt be on his 4th team in 4 years if he was any good.

Geno was awful and he couldnt wrestle the job from him. In his start there he threw for 64 yards and an interception.

In Cleveland they chose a 40 year old Flacco over him.

Bush is a much worse pick than Kenny IMO.

He was drafted significantly earlier. We traded significant draft capital to get him. Perhaps even worse than that is that he wore this when he was drafted.

Kenny clearly isn't an NFL starter. Maybe not even an NFL player. Outplayed by QB3s on every team he's been on. He'd be worse if we traded up to get him. Also a bad pick. But a reasonable gamble at the time. Most QBs fail. But you have to try to get them or you're basically screwed.

He was outplayed by the QB3 on all of the teams he's been a part of.

I used to think he'd be a good backup. But now I think he'll be out of the league sooner rather than later.

Pickett's record as a starter with the Steelers is 14-10. In 27 starts over his career with three teams he is 16-11. I really don't understand how he didn't thrive here. He had Mitch Trubisky to learn the position from.... How's that for a mentor? :dancing:

Tomlin has a job for life with a record like that. :roflmao:

Look, Pickett was in a horrible situation here, but he also could have shown a lot more by overcoming whatever obstacles were in his way in a bad system. He never really did that. I think he could have done better with a different set of circumstances, but all we have to go on is what we all saw while he was here.

He may not be done like many are saying. There aren't many backup and third string quarterbacks with a winning record over that many starts. There is most likely a place for him on a roster. Maybe he'll get a chance somewhere else.

Are you thinking he gets a contract next FA period?

    Above minimum wage?

How much of that was due to his efforts vs. the efforts of the rest of the team?
