Still, he's not that old and should be more productive.

If Jonnu were to be cut next year his cap hit is around 3.8 million.

Again my Friends the TE position has had 93 targets in 10 games, and that's not counting Heyward. Someone is going to go without. And someone will think a certain player should get more, but there is one ball, and only a certain amount of opportunities a game.

Then why did they trade for him and sign him to a contract extension if they didn't have bigger plans for him?

See what I mean. Someone else could say , why pay for , and draft Muth if You didn't have bigger plans for him, and Someone could say the same about Washington.
Needless of any of that, the TE position has been getting their targets, and Someone will have to suffer. There is only one ball.

I think TJ Watt and Cam Heyward are the most disappointing. I expected much more from them this season. Jonnu Smith and Thornhill didn’t think they would have much of an impact anyways.

You're confusing dead money and cap hit. His cap hit is $10.8M. Cut him and it creates $3.8M in dead money, saves $7M to the cap.

Watt is the big disappointment so far.

guys like slay are older vets we knew Tomlin was going to try to get some extra miles out of them, its the bargain bin with these guys, maybe they have a last resurgent year but most of the time its all down hill, as were seeing again.

with Jonnu, we already had a crowded TE room with PF and Darnel, somebody was going to get the short end of the stick. I wish we got another starting caliber receiver than another TE

Jonnu Smith is not the first free agent TE to disappoint and/or be injured all the time. Been happening to Steelers for over a decade. Our best TEs have been home grown... Miller, Spaeth the final frontier, Jesse James and Frieiermuth. Vance McDonald was the most productive free agent TE we've had.

Really the whole TE room, all we heard to date that Arthur Smith knows how to use 3 TE's
that we didn't need a Bonafide #2 receiver. Well we have seen how this has gone. Slay is terrible Thornhill is gone.
Both were/are terrible. Lets hope some of these secondary people step up. Let's also hope that they want to tackle in COLD weather.
Remember the Raven playoff game last year? LOL worst performance I have ever seen from a Steeler defense.

We should have gotten Waddle as part of that trade instead

Good point. On a much lesser scale I do same thing with the sport of Golf. When I start getting angry with shots I use to hit with no problem friends remind me of my age. Funny, in my mind I can hit them but my old body has a different idea.

Jonnu is getting the most opportunities among the TEs.

    Screenshot 2025-11-22 075815.png

His problem looks like he is not doing much when he does get the opportunities, at least compared to the others. And it's not like he hasn't done it before because in 2024 his yds/rr was similar to Muth and Washington this year. Is it the way he is being used on routes? Or is he a late checkdown, or easily covered by a LB or safety?

One thing we do know is that his average snap % has gone down in the last month. So has Muth's. Is this a sign the WRs are emerging? We are seeing more Wilson on the field lately.

It's early but maybe they made up for that Thornhill signing by getting Dugger in a trade.

It could be exactly that, or ...
It could be many things IMO, like attacking certain looks from certain teams.
For example, like them attacking the outside in runs last week.
I believe with using 3 TEs , no TE is going to see way more targets over another, except in certain situations. Someone is going to be left off, and someone on here is going to complain. LoL

I don't know you missed him. He's on pace for two receptions this year.

LoL. That's still two catches someone else could have had, and another reason for someone to complain. LoL
