Do you think mason should be our #1?

Please stop. Mason seems like a great person and he’s a quality backup. That’s it. The man has been in the NFL 8 years and was given a starting job. He couldn’t keep it. He was on the market. No one wanted him as a starter.

 

Maybe unpopular opinion but Rudolph's 'willingness to stand in the pocket' has more to do with his lack of sensing pressure, which has been his Achilles heel since entering the league. We will see it against the better defenses.

Please show us the post in which I suggested the Steelers should turn to Howard if Rodgers can't go. You can't because it doesn't exist. You made that up.

I'm not being negative at all. Rudolph seems like a good guy. I was fine with them bringing him back as a backup and I think he should start Sunday rather than put Rodgers out there at less than 100 percent.

Your claim that the offense has looked better with Rudolph than at any point since Roethlisberger simply isn't true. Just to pick a random example, look at what Rodgers did in the opener this season when the defense didn't bother to show up. Rodgers threw four touchdowns in that game, one of two times he did that this season. Rudolph has never thrown more than two touchdown passes in a game in his entire career.

The comment you responded to was about the dubious claim others made that the team played with more heart when Rudolph was in there Sunday. That is made up nonsense. There is no way to measure that. They played better, but that's not the same thing.

I'm happy they won and I hope he continues to play well. I like the guy. I just have no interest in overrating his successes or ignoring his failures.

You do seem fascinated with people having their girl stolen. It sounds like you are projecting some unresolved trauma. Best of luck with that.

 

Russell Wilson played the best game for a Steelers QB since 2018 Roethlisberger, last year vs Bengals (1st game at Cincinnati). No other QB has come close to that... not even Rodgers.

 

But...but...Rudolph looked good for half a game against the worst defense in the NFL Sunday!

 

The same defense that Rodgers looked pretty pedestrian against. Soon to be 42 years old Rodgers is not better than current Rudolph. Like Kaboly and Chris Hoke have said, Mason is a top 20 nfl qb and probably the best transition qb Steelers can get before they find their franchise qb. My personal opinion is that Will Howard isn’t it, just like I had predicted that JJ McCarthy would disappoint. Their success was based on the system. I am not impressed by anyone I have seen in college this year to predict that they will be a franchise qb. All are very inconsistent.

 

Hey Rudolph isn't my #1 choice, but Rodgers looks washed.

Rodgers doesn't have that long accurate throw anymore. I trust Russell wilson throw up bomb throw more.

And it's obvious he's afraid to take a hit.

In truth, Rodgers is a solid #2 with how he's playing.

 

It was one comment about your girlfriend(whom I'm sure is a wonderful woman) not a fascination lol... Your fascination with trashing Rudolph goes back years sooo... Rodgers, as great as he is, isn't known for inspiring his teammates as much as pissing them off with his attitude & criticism... So the chemistry with Rudolph was OBVIOUS... U just couldn't stand for the positivity towards Rudolph & though u will never admit it,,, u know it... Your history here in regards to Rudolph proves it... That being said,,, if AR can play he should...

 

I don’t think anyone really knows how good Mason can be because he hasn’t been really given a chance. His first year of starting he was decent prior to getting hurt. Later our frontline skilled position player like Juju, rb Connors etc were hurt and line was atrocious. He looked good in 2023. His time in Tennessee was when they were eliminated from playoffs and it seemed like he was the only one with the urgency to win. He was decent again against Cincinnati, but they have a bad defense. I think his floor is that of a good backup, but no one really knows what his ceiling is. Not enough data. He’s not the same qb he was in 2023. My opinion is that if Belichek had him instead of Tomlin, he would be considered a perennial starter.

 

If the rumors are true, after the game, Russ was sat down by Mike Tomlin and told to never do that again. Russ was told to quit throwing the long ball, and start playing Mike Tomlin football.

The Steelers would then finish out the year on a 5 game losing streak.

 

I agree with those who believe its not a matter of Rudolph being starter material but he may be the better option over a rapidly declining Rodgers. Thats the way its looked these past couple games. I hope im wrong, im sure Rodgers will play as soon as he's healthy and well find out where he's at skills wise

 

Mendoza is a clear front runner and is consistent as you can expect for a college QB in an emerging football program.

 

Honestly, I didn’t consider him as I have not watched him as no one traditionally follows Indiana for football. I watched highlights of him against Michigan and he looked good. He will be interesting to watch in playoffs. In any case Steelers don’t have a shot at him unless they give up the farm. They should offer Tennessee Mike Tomlin and first for their potential #[, considering Tennessee chose thir #1 last year. Who knows..

 

Sadly, he could very well end up a Brown... and his career will be over....

And what are the Pickett, Trubisky, Fields, Russ, Rodgers at this point, that plethora of QBs that Mike Tomlin courted to be his starters and to lead the Steelers to Super Bowl?
How come those guys get the starting decision but not Rudolph? Including the around-the-league quarterbacks like Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold, Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, going back decades I can name hundreds of quarterbacks.
What is your and Tomlin's problem with Rudolph that does not apply to any other quarterback in the history of the league?
Everyone can be the starter, Howard, Trub, anyone but Rudolph, 50 year old Brady, but not Rudolph?

 

Tomlin’s never really came out unequivocally supported Mason after Myles Garrett incident. I think Tomlin issues are related to that. Probably bothers the hell out of Tomlin that Mason is more popular than him especially the cheering reception he got last Sunday when he entered the game.

 

Rudolph is in his 8th year in the league, 7 of those with the Steelers. Tomlin has had 7 training camps and 7 seasons of practices to see Mason every day. Obviously in his opinion Rudolph is a very capable backup QB but not capable of being the team's long term starter.

 

I agree with that. The issue is that Tomlin just cannot judge what makes a good QB looking at the losers that have been drafted and recruited since Ben left. Sadly, it’s Tomlin’s decision.

 

Tomlin's opinion ain't sht. That's a proven fact. That's the same guy who got Trubisky, Pickett, Russ, Fields, and now Rodgers. And who knows who else Tomlin will sport out there, in his "opinion"? I trust Colbert.

 

Listening to Hasselbeck on sports radio the other day on the Browns QB situation he said something interesting. Said it is usually very obvious in preseason who the starter is for a team. There is rarely a case where a coach might say 'hmm, either of these guys can start'. He said starters are so much more obvious when watching them run reps.
