I really have no connection to pittsburgh, aside from a great grandfather who owned a restaurant in Braddock a long time ago. I just latched onto the team while watching a steelers bengals game on TV as a kid in 1977, started following them, believed everything they stood for and never looked back.

I liked Dwight White comment on Dallas doing all of that shifting, he dismissed it saying no matter how you line up you're still going to have take this ass whooping.

Born and raised in the Burgh. My Dad was/is a die hard fan. The first game I remember watching was 80 Super Bowl vs the Rams. But my first season, as a die hard, knowledgeable fan was 1984.

My dad took me to Steelers training camp at Slippery Rock college back in 1963. I was awe struck at how gigantic the players were, especially Big Daddy Lipscomb. Plus we had a local player to root for in Butler HS grad Bill Saul.

How could you not become a fan if you saw them play in the 70s, they played the game it was meant to be played gang tackling and hard-nosed defense.

I was born in Youngstown and whole family were browns fans and I asked for a Steeler jacket at 4 in 74. Got to call every uncle and cousin every time we won and bet my dad 5 dollars every game. He chased me out of the house during the non fumble kickoff return in 79 game. He took me to training camp in 79. We have 35mm film of whole practice. Got autographs and loved it.

I am from the St. Louis area. I was just getting into collecting football cards. In 1971 the St. Louis "football" Cardinals were a losing organization. My older brother said, "Since the Cardinals usually lose, and I like Isaiah Robertson (a linebacker), the Rams are going to be my team." I was playing defensive tackle in youth football so I said, "I like Joe Greene, so I will become a Steelers fan." My older brother told my younger brother, that he would be a Rams fan, too, so that they could gang up on me. I not only picked the right team because of the Steelers 4 Super Bowls during my teenage years, but they also beat the Rams, so I had bragging rights over my brother. I always tell people, Joe Greene made me a Steelers fan, but Franco Harris made me a Steelers fan for life.

I had 4 older cousins we all grew up in 70s. Pat - Dallas, Gary - Minnesota, Glenn - Miami and Sam - Raiders. My choice was easy Steelers and I had the last laugh over all of them, hooked from than on. Still wish we would have drafted Marino, the 80’s and 90’s would have been so good.
