They should fire Austin and not replace him at all. Let Mike call the D so then he can’t place the blame on anyone else for his ****ty product.

PAUL ZEISE | I have learned a lot today about the inner workings of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it is amazing to me that there are still people who are looking to find excuses for their current defensive struggles without pointing the finger precisely where it belongs.

Apparently, it is everyone else’s fault except for Mike Tomlin, the head coach. Well, that’s unless things are going well, then it is because Tomlin is a genius and one of the best coaches in NFL history.

The Teflon Tomlin nickname has never been more appropriate than now, all things considered. He is never to blame for anything bad, and anyone who suggests that it is Tomlin’s fault is either racist or doesn’t know ball.

I heard Alan Saunders on a recent podcast say Butler was fired, we don't know what went on behind the scenes. Remember when Art ll tried to say Arians was going to retire but he said that wasn't true ;).

Listen it’s possible he had an axe to grind but it doesn’t change Mike Tomlin is the HC Mike Tomlin hires these assistants and Mike Tomlin should be held accountable. Period end of story. How can you not see this when the same BS happens year after year after year??

When I first heard him on the radio I thought it was some type of amateur contest. That being said he’s not wrong here.

Why does Tomlin let the Ravens have a bye the week before their Thursday night game?

Damn the PG for not letting me read it. I never heard the nickname "Teflon Tomlin". I have to break down and get the PG on line.

We do have to start wondering about Kahn and Weidl as well. Where was the talent evaluation when some of these guys were signed? Chuck Clark? Really? Thornhill was kicked off a bad Browns team (ok, the defense wasn't bad). Slay? C'mon man, what were they seeing watching his tape? Is it a case where Tomlin convinced them he could make them work?
I was thinking the Steelers would be in danger of losing Weidl with a few successful drafts but now it's no longer even at DEFCON 2 for a team signing him.

We play Ravens first time on a day that will live in infamy. I am thinking (more like hoping) that last game of season with them will be meaningful for both sides.

That is a bit unfair. Really advantage Ravens.

Someone has to take $10M/year from Rooney. If it ain't the HC, who would it be?

I believed that to always be the case, it’s the Steelers MO. It’s the rest of your premise I disagree with.

Colin Dunlap is another local guy that criticizes Tomlin.

Ray Fittipaldo is a beat writer who also is not afraid to criticize him.

Didn't we recently have a big board-wide debate on the subject of if halftime adjustments are even a thing? I think I remember that happening.

It's a question we are all asking. If the coaches are making the right adjustments but the players aren't those adjustments, at least we know what we need to work on and how to get better from this point on.

If the coaches just aren't making adjustments, or the wrong adjustments, it's the same thing. Now we know what to work on to get this team back in the right direction.

We as fans will likely never know the answer to that. Maybe it's a combo of both.

Well since Austin is the actual one calling the plays and personnel packages then he is more than just a figurehead. The in game play calling is much more important than game planning. The gameplan rarely holds up in its entirety for the whole game, your coordinator needs to be able to adjust too what the offense is doing. You can fire the head coach all you want but if you dont get rid of the guy actually calling the plays you wont get any better.

Let me give you an example of the effect of a coach that knows his stuff.

Mike McDonald - formerly Ravens DC

When you have a coach that knows what he is doing it makes a difference, sometimes a huge difference.

STD wants to know why they are playing so much man, stubbornness.

Tomlin thinks they should be great at it, clearly they are not.

Why would you have a problem with what he said. Someone is ****ing up here and hes wondering if it’s the coaches or players.

Dismissing one of the best QBs to ever play and played for this team no less is definitely a choice.

So the guy Mike Tomlin thought was a good fit to call his defensive scheme is awful and yet Mike has no blame in this? At some point you need to trace things back to the one consistent problem. We have had many different players and coordinators but only one man stands and nothing has changed.
