"Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase said the Steelers came out in a defensive look that the Bengals anticipated during Cincy’s 33-31 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

“They did exactly what we were expecting and hoping they’d do,” Chase said via video from the team’s YouTube page.

“Man (coverage). We knew they were going to put Joey (Porter Jr.) on Tee (Higgins) and put Jalen (Ramsey) on me. We knew that we were ready for it. We knew that we were going to take advantage of those opportunities."

Somehow the opponents expected it, and Steeler Nation knew the defensive game plan sucked, and we stuck with it all game. Such a frustrating team.

Old Steelers would have at least set up some smacks on them and had them thinking about getting hit.

How many NFL players have said something along these same lines......we knew what they would do......? If we are that transparent, there are only 2 options you have. Be so good at what you do that the opposing team can't stop it even if they know what you are going to do. Or you have to change some stuff up. We are not good enough to make it work no matter what if the other team knows what we do, so.........

Honestly, I am surprised that this does not start in week 1. Every year, the Steelers do the same thing for the entire season. All it takes is for 1 team to figure it out and counter it. After that happens, everyone starts doing it to us. I think that the offense does not suffer this problem as much as the defense. Our defense probably has the same exact playbook they used in 2014 with different names.

With all of the analytical tools, video, ai and whatever else that is out there now, if you have patterns they are going to be spotted and taken advantage of. You must run an ever changing game plan.

During the post game interview Flacco's response and reaction to the question about the Steelers bracket coverage speaks volumes. "They broke the huddle and I said OH MY GOD!!"

Except they didn't stick with the same game plan all game long, they tried zone and man but of course that would ruin your narrative.

So even Queen had no tips on what makes Flacco uncomfortable?

No Staff member had an idea?

There’s no book on him ?

    Lame coaching.

There is nothing surprising in which the Steelers do over the past 12 years. Mediocre teams probably look forward to playing our way too predictable offense and defense. The standard is the standard and the approach is always the same. Teams use to fear us and now I believe they look forward to playing us.

And it’s not just opposition players either

Minkah commented a few years into his time with the Steelers that they did a lot more game planning in Miami week to week. With the Steelers they just go out and play their game for the most part. Naturally teams are going to see trends and take advantage.

    Won't be mine.

If Cincy loses to the Jets and if Pittsburgh can win against Green Bay?! All the better.

LoL. They just knew that a player that has never played for the Steelers was going to be the guy covering certain guys, and you buy this, especially since Ramsey hasn't been assigned to cover one certain player yet this year??
    You guys will believe anything.
I guess if he said he shoved sweet, and sour candy up his a$$ before he played us because He knew exactly what we were going to do , You'd believe that also.
Awful funny that he says that, and yet we didn't run the same coverage for the whole dang game, if You watch, You would know this.

Makes me laugh that you watched the game, and believe this. They didn't even play that same coverage throughout the game. You guys believe anything.

If Cincy loses to the Jets it’s a pretty big indictment of how much trouble we are. Of course its good for us in the standings but I dont have too much faith we can contend with the better teams if Cincy reverts back to the bad team they were before playing us.

This three game stretch coming up could be ugly.

The big indictment though has been the constant that has allowed this to happen for the past several years. Personally, we are long past from the indictment for it is now confirmation. However, given how this isn't changing any time soon, I expect more of the same regarding this three game stand.

Wouldn't surprise me either if we lost all three.

Once you just accept that Steelers are never going to compete for the SB, then all of your anxiety goes away. Trust me, watching the games became way more enjoyable for me this season after I gave up on caring about SBs. On game days, all I care about is what happens in that single game, and I limit feeling happy/sad to just one week per game.

IF only it were that easy. Every year I go through these roller coaster emotions thinking they could actually do something or they look good. And you have to admit the defense looked good against the Browns. Then of course the inevitable happened. They **** the bed and I came back down to earth demonstrating my insecurities about this team. Nobody has to believe me but I now know if they are going to win or lose at half time. I have a perfect record and those games where I get that sense of pending doom I will go to bed and not bother watching. I know some will disapprove but my anger and disappointment just wont allow me to invest my time in watching games where it seems fixed ( I know it's not ) or the Steelers are not playing up to their capability.

I believe him because its what I saw with my own eyes. It doesn't matter if you switch up your coverage when the other team knows your tendencies. We gave Flacco the exact look he was expecting on nearly every play.

Oops, hit the against the rules rating by accident.

I was referring to this season specifically because Rodgers is the first QB since Ben that I felt could actually lead them to a SB.

Not a surprise and not the first time it happen for the steelers

Bad coaching defense for so many years now and outside of 2 games(against the depleted o-line of the vikings and the browns) the defense have been garbage this year all years long.....Lucky the pats had awful ball security against us and Boswell hit a 60 yards FG against the Jets or the steelers would be 2-4 but at least for Tomlin, those wins will help the steelers to continue his streak of the non losing season thank to Rodgers and thank to some luck and it could still be enough to win the afc north if the ravens continue to struggle

Ah. I see. Your good on the Sixposts.

Didn't realize you were talking specifically about the QBs. I was referring to the Defense. :drinks:

That said, I really believe the dreams of @S.T.D@S.T.D need to happen in 2026. Draft a damn corner in Round 1. This nonsense has gone far enough.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for a CB in round one in 2026, it will likely be QB or OL. I wanted them to take Quinyon Mitchell when he was on the board, but they took Fautanu instead.
