How does he still have a job after tonight? There is just zero excuse for this. They absolutely have to fire him. As in, middle of the season fire him.

Give up 470 yards to the worst offense in the league, with a guy who is completely washed up.

Rooney needs to have some balls and do what is right. If he doesn’t, fans need to STOP SHOWING UP.

I don't know if it was all worth it this season, with Rodgers, Metcalf, if we are not competitive on defense.

It honestly looked much the same from 1st to 2nd half…

we clearly got outcoached in this game. Bengals identified weaknesses and exploited it.

As a coach I hate this guy. Play zone after blitzing 1 and 2 to only give up 10 plus yards on 3rd. The other team only need a fg and he play zone.

He made no changes. No aggressiveness. Nothing but **** zone. Just double Chase and make them beat you with Higgins or one of the other guys. But no, what’d he have? 17 receptions? How the F is that even possible. Teryl Austin HAS to be fired. Immediately.

The problem is the defense is stubborn and live and dies by the outside pass rush.

If you are getting blocked up on the outside you need to find other ways to get to the QB.

I’m worried about this D because outside of sacks, they can’t cover and they can’t stop the run.

You don’t think Tomlin has a heavy hand in the defensive play calling? It’s on him!

He and Tomlin were out-coached for sure. They had early success with stuffing the run with putting big bodies on the line. Once they went subpackage with 2 DL is when Brown started to gouge them. The kept subpackage and cheated up to the box then Chase got free on one on one coverage. Still poor communication in the middle guys getting released while the defender stares at them. Absolute junk. He he spits out word salad about losing the turnover battle i think I will blow chunks myself

the 2 down linemen frustrated me…if the OLBS are getting handled all night…at least try to get a push up the middle to move Flacco off his spot.

If he had any sense of decency or honor, this would be Austin at the next team meeting:

I felt like committing seppuku a few times tonight lol

If Teryl Austin's defense was food, it would be the mac n' cheese served at a nursing home.... Soft, watery, cheesy, garbage.

Our defense has had poor tackling in the 2nd and 3rd levels for a number of years now…

Somebody is getting fired for this defense. We have the best defensive roster in the league.

It wasn't just the tackling. It was letting their garbage OL set the tone. We got run on, we let Chase and Higgins run wide open all night, we played a very conservative game plan and got burned. It was an all around defensive failure. It's Tomlin's defense.... so a Tomlin failure. In a huge turning point moment for the season, so right on queue.

You have to Fire Mike Tomlin to get rid of Austin.

The Steelers had Brian Flores inhouse and he would have stuck around for the DC position if Tomlin had offered it to him. Instead we kept Austin as DC, and Flores went to Minnesota to become their DC.

Austin is going nowhere as long as Tomlin is the head coach. :(

Sure he will. If the seat gets even lukewarm for Tomlin, Austin will be the sacrificial lamb.

Austin would just be the scapegoat. Tomlin let the world know he is afraid of Flacco and then played his defense like it.

For anyone thinking that we should have played more man, go back and look at the results when we did play man. It was even uglier than when we played zone. We did play a fair amount of man coverage last night. We do not have the corners to hang with Chase and Higgins, or even Iosavas. My issue with our zone scheme is that our guys drop to defined spots and generally look oblivious to who is entering their zones until the ball is in their air. The trend in the NFL is towards soft zones to prevent big plays, but we take soft to a new level.

And then there’s the tackling in zone… I still have Queen casually bumping into Chase, turning a short gain into 20 yards, in my head from one of the replays in last night’s game.
