Since PFF is so obsessed with that stat Nick Herbig leads the league at a 36% prwr and Steelers are 2nd in prwr as a team.

Herbig is coming up for a contract extension in 2026 being a UFA after the season.

They could franchise him but the tag for this season is 24.5 large and will grow going forward.

This brings me to Alex Highsmith. 20 large for 2026 and 21 in 2027. He is now 28. Herbig is 23.

I like Highsmith but seems to get banged up a bit to often. I would trade him next season before the draft.

Sign Herbig. He won't come cheap taking his game to another level this season, plus OLB pass rushers make bank! He is a monster pass rusher that Highsmith isn't. The argument is that Highsmith is a stout run stuffer. I would rather have the monster pass rusher element which Herbig has. Plus they have the modern day warrior todays Jack Sawyer. Just my two cents.

I like this idea. With Highsmith you eat $11.2M in dead cap which can either all be counted next year or split between '26 and '27. That also gives the acquiring team a good deal for two years at $14.5M and $15.5M. If the Steelers trade for a player in a similar contract situation (a WR with a couple of years left?), that becomes much easier to offset.

Eh not necessarily. It just means that he is beating the guy across from him. It's hard to know what a "win" is and it doesn't factor in stuff like double teams or anything like that.... but it definitely is a more obscure stat than others. I still think there's some usefulness in it though. We at least know that our rushers are basically the toughest in the league to keep from creating pressure.

When you give a guy wins that didn’t affect the play it’s a joke. You can hear their explanation for yourself straight from the source. They claim he had a great game despite having no impact

Pass rush win rate isn't a stat that tracks impact. It is just an indicator of whether or not you're beating your guy. It is way less relevant than sacks/pressures/turnovers/etc., but it gives you data as to whether or not your player is actually winning their reps. Players that have high win rates tend to be the players with the most sacks. Not always, but it usually evens out that way over the course of the season.

I don't think this is a PFF thing like the other thread. It's just a stat pointing out that Herbig beats his guy more than anyone else in the league. Sure, there's nuance to it (lining up in a defense with TJ Watt garnering all the attention sure helps get you more 1 on 1's), but it at least shows how effective Herbig has been in his role. He's been healthy for 4 games and has 4.5 sacks. That's a pretty good thing for a pass rusher. There is no reason to believe that he won't be a double digit sack artist by the end of the year as long as he remains healthy.

I fully agree with that. It's a joke to give a guy wins that didn't affect the play.

It's similar to giving a HC accolades for non-losing seasons without SB wins.

    Both are jokes. :)

Not once have you ever seen me bring up that topic. Only the talking heads and people like yourself. With that being said no, not similar. Of course you’re not capable of having discussion about football without the childlike bs about tomlin. We get it. The whole world gets it. All of your ills and all of our losses both past and future will be gone once tomlin is gone.

I didn't mean it towards you... but I do agree that my childlike bs about tomlin goes on forever. I just can't help it... :). I need a SB or several years of non-Tomlin to get it through my system.

While I'm at it, I think PFF should come up with a ranking system for HCs. Tomlin would be the all time best and be ranked much higher than Belichek/Noll/etc.

I don’t give a **** how you meant it or what the intent was. You’ve got nothing to add of value so you whine about Tomlin. Personally I hope he coaches the Steelers until he’s 90. That way I’ll know you’ll be on you’re deathbed haunted by 60ish years of Tomlin running the team

JJ Watt once again is 100% on target in his opinions of PFF.

Love how their tweet about their bs stats and the explanation of it has them saying "worth a listen" yes please tell us how you grade the effort displayed by Garrett higher that actual stats by actual players in the game the affected the outcome.

This only works when (1) you don't actually make more plays than someone who has a worse number AND (2) PFF hasn't yet realized that sometimes teams chip edge rushers.

Worthless stats are everywhere. For some reason we keep giving them legs.

When an offense runs a screen pass the OL is supposed to put up a slight effort in blocking the pass rusher and then let him get through. I wonder how PFF will grade the DL who "wins" the pass rush but is now out of position in the play. My next question is will each of the 800 or so employees of PFF all grade that play the same?

Highsmith will tough to trade due to his enormous cap#. Having said that I'd take a 4th round pick for him hopefully better.
