Would you trade away two 1st round picks for Patrick Mahomes? That would be a slam dunk yes for me.

Of course the problem is you could trade up and get a Jamarcus Russell.

So no doubt there is great risk, but with great potential for reward.

The problem is, it seems evaluator miss at the QB position more than they hit.

I have confidence in Khan and Weidl to make the appropriate move if they did need to trade two 1st round picks and then some.

No risk no reward. Tom Brady and Joe Montana's aren't all that common.

It's hard not to pick a Manning if one is available.

Or You could trade 3 first round picks, and a 3rd like 49ers did for T. Lance, and never really use Him.

I'm not some super QB evaluator of talent but there was nothing on Trey Lance's college game to me that would warrant giving up that much draft capital.

That was simply dumb, desparate, or both.

I agree. I believe it was like a lot of HCs, they seen some things they liked, and believed they could coach up the rest.

Meatloaf song comes to mind. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. I’d like to make sure it’s a great pick than to rely on the jersey name. Don’t know much about the young kid but no doubt he is getting attention.

I would have loved to witness that come to Jesus moment when they realized Lance wasn’t who they thought he was.

Back in that draft cycle I had trouble finding game film on Lance so I was very skeptical. As I recall, there were no complete games easily located online. His stats were gaudy in his one year as a starter though: 16-0 and FCS champs, 28 TD passes vs. zero interceptions plus 14 rushing TDs. If I remember right he also had no lost fumbles, so that means he had 42 TDs vs. zero turnovers. He also had the measureables at 6’4” 224 with good athleticism. A swing and miss for the fences.

Chris Simms also ranked him the best QB coming out that year. Guess people fell in love with those numbers and his intangibles.

I watched Lance in the HOF game last week and he didn't look bad at all. He threw for 2 TD'S and didn't turn the ball over while playing the first 3 quarters of the game. Of course the level of competition was very low but it looked like he knew what he was doing out on the field.

As I said before ,many times. If a player can keep himself in the NFL, He will continue to get better , the problem is how much better, and I would bet the 49ers didn't give up 3 first round draft picks, and a 3rd for a guy that is finally now looking good in the preseason 4 years after they drafted him. Those kinds of things can get a whole coaching staff, and GM fired.
That's why I laugh when people say that teams aren't patient with their players, because owners, and teams aren't patient with the GMs, and coaches. He may eventually turn out good, but they couldn't wait 4, or 5 years for that.

I give them credit for moving on when his performance made moving on the right decision instead of sailing a sinking ship to the seabed. Some teams dig in and and try to force an early 1st round pick into the lineup for years no matter what.

Exactly. Hell I'd bet 97% of the NFL teams would have tried making it work, after spending that amount of draft capital on him, I not sure I'd blame them. Imagine going to the owner if You are the guy who picked him, and telling him......hey you know that guy we spent all that draft capital on, yeah well he isn't going to work out. LoL

Lance is going into his 5th NFL season and has just turned 25. He is younger than Michael Penix, Bo Nix and Tyler Shough who is entering his rookie season. Who knows after bouncing around the league for 4 years and under Jim Harbaugh's guidance now maybe the light has turned on for him.
