I think your Rodgers info is too out of date.

Old QBs do not want to be under center in 11 personal waiting for their WRs to get open down the field. Ben was the same way at the end of his career. Back in the Shotgun trying to get the ball out in a matter of a second. Just at the OTAs people were commenting about how slow Aaron Rodgers looked in the drills.

I can't say solid for an OL with 2 ? marks at tackle.

    Not according to Warren Sharp.

"In the 2024 season, the New York Jets ran 11 personnel on 62% of their offensive plays, according to Sharp Football Analysis. This means they had one running back, one tight end, and three wide receivers on the field for that percentage of plays.

While the Jets' 62% usage is high, the league average for 11 personnel was 21.71%, according to SumerSports. This highlights the Jets' strong preference for this particular offensive formation."

    Because of Friermuth's concussion history,

He is worthy of a new contract but having depth at the TE position (Jonnu Smith, Darnell Washington) will increase the chances he delivers on that new contract by not overplaying him and making him more vulnerable to injury

By legit, I mean both ability (preferably proven) AND availability. Our WR2 & WR3 are TINY & fragile. They’ve each already missed an entire season due to injury & they haven’t played 5 years, combined. Wilson has yet to see the field & we have no idea, whatsoever, if he can be a reliable contributor.

I like CAIII. But, not as a 2nd option bc he’s so frail & susceptible to injury. I, personally, just can’t count on guys like that & it’s a slippery slope, IMO, to put all of our eggs in those baskets. They can’t BOTH be so slight & dainty. And, if DK misses time, they become WR1 & WR2.

I don’t really trust Johnnu, either. At least, not as a 2nd option. He had an awesome season, no doubt. But, it was his first good season out of 8. Was it a flash in the pan due to Tua missing time, with the backup QBs relying heavily on a security blanket? His first 7 seasons were pedestrian, at best.

I’d just feel MUCH better about it if there was a guy in the room with decent size & a proven track record of durability & production, who isn’t washed. Doesn’t even have to be a prolific #2 or anything ridiculous. Just someone who can get thru 17 games with a history of at least 1 or 2 seasons of decently consistent production.

Amari Cooper would be ideal. But, even someone like a JuJu or Kendrick Bourne. Heck, even Robert Woods would fit the criteria if he was 3-5 years younger. I’m not asking for 80 catches & 900 yards. Just someone who can stay steady & healthy.

I take it you didn't watch Cooper play last season.

Towards the end of his career? That’s not even remotely accurate

His QB situation was trash in Cleveland. I don’t hold that against him. In Buffalo, learning the playbook & getting acclimated held him back some. But, he wasn’t horrible there. He just wasn’t used much & I’ve read that he was unhappy.

But, anyone can have a bad year & he’s still young enough to bounce back & be a useful player. He’s been a really good player his entire career, with the exception of last season.

We don’t need prime Amari Cooper, but, I absolutely think he has enough left to provide something like 60 catches, 700 yards & 5-7 TDs, which is all we need. If that. And, he’s only missed a handful of games throughout his career, which would be big, considering the injury risks for CAIII & Wilson.

If that was the case the Steelers would've signed him instead of Woods.

I feel good about it. Troy is going to be a stud, not worried about him. Frazier already is a a stud, McCormick had a good rookie campaign and expect him to build upon it. Seumalo was dealing with a pec injury, he should be back to relatable this season.

That leaves Jones as the lone question mark but hopefully being back at his natural position he starts playing to his potential.

Setting aside injury, I tend to agree. However, Jones is playing the most important position on the O Line and was pretty bad last season. As for injury risk, if you look at our O Line depth it’s pretty thin on players that you can have real confidence in. The only backup that I have confidence in being able carry the load for several weeks is McCollum.

i would add scharping to this list but i see your point about the tackle position. i think the interior is solid enough with depth.

He was shuffled down to WR3 in favor of Jeudy and Moore, two far better WRs. Had little to do with the QBs. Cooper has lost at least two steps and that was his top trait.

Freak injuries happen. They each had a season ending injury. I'd be more worried if they missed 5 games a year every year. Austin has played 2 consecutive 17 game seasons (one of them was as a seldom used target, but still). I think we can expect him to at least be solid. He's proven enough so far IMO.

I also don't necessarily agree that Smith has only one good season. He isn't a top 5 TE or anything, but outside of an up year in Miami, his best years were with Smith as OC (and often with a secondary TE option to go with him). He will be more than useful for us.

I can agree that the modern game is more about passing, but it matters less whether it is a TE or a WR. Many TE's nowadays are glorified big WR's and I think we have 4 viable receiving option (Metcalf, Freiermuth, Smith, Austin) with the chance for a 5th if Roman Wilson turns out to be a decent player. Id obviously prefer a good WR2 over not having one, but I am not willing to rule out the possibility that between Austin, Smith, and Freiermuth that a legitimate 2nd option will emerge.

I don't think we've ignored WR... we've taken Austin, Pickens, and Wilson in the past 4 years. Its unfortunate that we've dealt with a few injuries (and Pickens being, well, Pickens), but I think we've at least given it a run. I am certain we will draft one (or sign one) in next year's draft somewhere relatively high.

Unfortunately, the QB position is only going to be "fixed" through the draft. It is very rare to do so via FA or trade (though, not impossible). While having a quality roster, it is hard to blame them for trying to get a vet in and make a run. We tried on Pickett, but he turned out to be a dud... I am high on Howard, but he's still a day 3 pick and relatively unlikely to be the solution. We have the capital to take a swing next year (likely though a big move up in the draft), so we at least have that going for us. We just have to pick the right player.

I agree that we have a quality roster, and I agree that Rodgers should give us more than Russ did. Will it be good enough to win it all? Who knows. I get something sticking with you though. It was Najee Harris for me. It annoyed me beyond belief that we kept giving him the ball when we had Warren on the team... so I feel a similar pain in other areas hahah Can't blame you for it.

Imagine this offense if they kept Pickens but they probably don't trade for Jonnu then, I can see him having 50-60 catches 6-8 TDs this season.

Does anybody think that Pat Friermuth is worth the 48 million the Steelers are paying him?

Frazier is playing the most important position on the line. Everything starts with the center.

As is with the QB position, the center touches the ball on every play. The very most important OL.
