We probably won’t just be using a 1st round pick, but also trading multiple other picks, possibly including a future 1st rounder, to get into range to take a top QB.

I was listening to a Steelers podcast, and they were saying the same thing since they got Rodgers they should be all in this year and go get a WR2. They must've read this thread :hehehe:.

If they hadn’t signed Rodgers Howard still would have been behind Mason

    No gain no loss

All these moves tell me that the team has confidence that the young Offensive Line will develop well. I hope that is the case. More importantly, if Broderick Jones can be the Franchise Left Tackle so many believe he can be; myself doubly so and no less.

At 26 million for this season for Ramsey they better be all in and then some. You dont go that big to not make a Superbowl push.

The biggest X Factor is, and I hate repeating myself, the Offensive Line.

This team goes as far as they do. More importantly, signing a good swing tackle would also be a rock solid option at this point. That said, priority number one as of this moment is to extend T.J. Watt and get it over with.

Except with Mason he would have gotten on the field at some point. With Rodgers that isn’t happening without an injury.

I think Miami is paying Ramsey 7 million of that 26 million, that's still a lot for the Steelers to pay 19 million if the deal isn't restructured.

I saw an article that said the Dolphins already pay that 7 mil as part of the structure of his deal with them and that the Steelers would still be paying him at least 23 million this season before the agreed to up that by nearly 2 million to make the trade happen. I sure once the final numbers come out there will be clarity but talk about a two player hit between Ramsey and Metcalf ouch .

Why do you think he would have gotten on the field

    Injury

    Mason fails

Or are you thinking this staff would suddenly think he let’s pull the starter and put the rookie in

If Mason was the starter this season then we would have a losing record halfway through the year and then just see what Howard could do the second half. But hopefully Rodgers is healthy all year and we don't see either Rudolph or Howard.

I have mixed feelings. I like each move individually, but collectively I'm struggling to see how the team is going to be better than last season.

QB: obviously better than last year, but certainly can be a wash.

RB: Johnson is definitely a better suited for what Smith likes to do on offense and that will definitely help the OL

TE: 13 personnel sounds intriguing and will created mismatches. Smith and Muth should get their numbers but Washington in short yardage situations should eat. He probably won't get the numbers the other two will get, but he'll have some tuddys.

OL: should be improved and helped by a QB with a quicker release and a better run game.

WR: DK is an upgrade over Pickens and CAIII should continue to grow. Wilson is a WC, but if he gets on the field, he's someone that Aaron is going to try to get the ball to, moreso than CAIII, but that ball is in Wilson's court. Still needs a ZWR.

IDL: kinda a wash or worse than last year. Harmon and Yaya should help in the depth department and I have high hopes for Harmon. To keep it a wash, Heyward gotta continue playing at an insane level for someone his age. I tend to think he regresses, but not by much. I think Benton will make a nice 3rd year leap.

Edge: not much to say here. Mostly a wash to slight improvement. Highsmith should maintain his level or be better and Watt is Watt. He'll probably get 16-18 sacks with a couple of picks and a fumble recovery or two for tuddies. Herbig and Sawyer will definitely help keep Highsmith and Watt fresh.

ILB: I think this unit will be worse unless Wilson steps up. I just have my doubts regarding Holcomb. He's been out of football for a season and a half. I hope he comes back and plays at a high level, but that's a tough ask. And Queen needs to play at the level he's being paid. He can be a cornerstone defender for the next decade, but he needs to produce like one.

CB: definite upgrades in the form of talent alone; however I have questions on how much Slay has in the tank. At 33, I just consider his addition a wash to that of Jackson. He can play at a high level. But will he is the question? Ramsey can fill in at CB if Slay doesn't play up to snuff. Speaking of Ramsey, he's an interesting cat. He's probably going to play some hybrid FS/slot CB role. He's definitely an upgrade over Beanie; however with Beanie and Trice, I gotta like the depth here.

S: definitely a downgrade. Losing Minkah hurts, even if he wasn't playing up to snuff. I think if Ramsey gets a substantial amount of reps at FS, it definitely becomes more of a wash. But when Thornhill, Ramsey and Slay are on the field in the middle of December, we'll be having 3 guys that are 30+.

Overall on the defensive side of the ball, the run defense looks weaker and the pass defense is a wash to worse.

I disagree about the IDL I don't think they can be worse Larry O was useless, I think they can get more out of the rotation at DL than they got last year. I think they will bring in another safety before the season starts.
