This is truer than one may realize. Bradshaw tells a story that when he had surgery on his elbow before he retired, he used a fictitious name to avoid the media attention. That fictitious name was Tom Brady.

Terry Bradshaw > Joe Montana in SB games only because of much tougher defenses. Bengals defenses were not much to fear.

I have a hard time believing Marino was a cocaine addict, some marijuana maybe, at that time it was common. Still should of drafted him and the Steelers biggest ever draft miss.

At that time cocaine was common and more of a big deal but in reality it wasn’t any more than marijuana

But at the time it sounded worse

On a side note back in the 70’s my brother while in school worked in a hospital pharmacy

Hospital policy was when you used the last of something you reordered what was ordered last time

Ignoring the fact they hadn’t ordered any in 25 or so years he placed an order for cocaine

The next day he went to work and waiting for him was the Chief Administrator Head of the Pharmacy and the DEA

He had ordered 3 1/2 pounds of pharmaceutical pure cocaine

Funny part is the hospitals cost was $57

    I offered him a hundred :smiley1:

Cocaine was as easy to get a hold of as marijuana in Pittsburgh in the early 1980’s. For an underage person it was actually easier to get than alcohol. Not saying he was an addict but there were strong rumors that he was very participating or maybe he just liked the smell of it. Anyways it was enough for Art Rooney Sr. to stay away and pick Gabe Rivera. It’s been said that Dan Rooney really wanted Marino but was overruled.

Concerns about Marino: There were rumors circulating about Dan Marino, including speculation about his drug use, which reportedly influenced the Steelers' decision. Chuck Noll, the Steelers head coach at the time, admitted that the rumors played a significant role.

While the ultimate decision to draft Gabe Rivera rested with Head Coach Chuck Noll, the influence of these factors and the prevailing climate within the Steelers organization led to passing on Marino. This decision is often cited as one of the biggest "what-ifs" in NFL history, as Marino went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Miami Dolphins.

Fast forward to 2022. Bags Tomlin and gummy worm Art II were going to rectify the past miss and draft a Panthers QB in Kenny Pickett.

Well that was another miss and set back the franchise.

I believe that if Marino was drafted there would have been possibly a few more Lombardi Trophy's in the case.
