This should be the end for Patterson.

Hasn't had much production in the NFL yet. Was thought of as a good fit for outside zone, IIRC

    Still no WR? lol

I don't even care anymore. Kahn has no idea what he is doing.

They really must think Chubb has nothing left to offer. I’d take a ham sandwich over this guy.

    :sigh:

Or that he has too much to offer.... I'd imagine we are more than happy splitting carries between Warren and Johnson and don't want to add a third player to take touches. I understand that having a contingency plan for injuries is smart, but Chubb would have to be interested in essentially being a gameday inactive when the RB room is healthy. Can't really see him being too content with that.

We expect our RB3 to contribute to ST's and if we keep a 4th, it will be because they too can contribute to ST's and are a good enough contingency plan that they are willing to sit them inactive until needed.

To me, our RB room is simply settled. We're going to roll with Warren and Johnson and let Patterson and Gainwell battle it out for the RB3/KR duties.

No, they did not. They improved the locker room, but they weakened the receiving corps.

They added a multi-role RB for this season. Solid move. Sermon can line up at multiple positions within the offense. He's not going to take over, just insurance.

At Ohio St Sermon gave me Marcus Allen vibes.... he's a good runner at the pro level, but his ball security has been his downfall

Why is Patterson still on the roster? He looked old and slow last season.

He was around 50th in receiving the last two years

He was a boarder line 3 and he had to go

It comes done to Special Teams I guess in this instance.
Sermon plays ST's as I understand.
I was wondering that with Chubb hanging out there and if I want to replace Patterson, Chubb might be the guy.
    But Chubb doesn't play ST's.
And I would agree Chubb is an unknown as far as what he has left in the tank.

They are having some fun at our expense at QB and WR.....
I've heard a few 'talking heads' making fun of us.
I think Omar has painted himself into a corner again. In watching Toomer I don't know he's 100% and/or a good mix with DK.
I know I had endorsed such a move but I'm not so sure now.

I guess the mantra is stick with your youth and let the chips fall.

He likely won't be for long, but there is nothing wrong with giving him an opportunity still. He will only make the team if he earns it.

I don't know how that is possible when he was 32nd in yards last season in 14 games and 16th in yards in 2023.... I guess if you looked solely at number of receptions, then he would be around 50th over the past two seasons (still a #2 WR output considering that there are roughly a dozen RB's and TE's ahead of him in receptions), but possession WR isn't his game. He was a big play guy, and very similar in style to DK Metcalf. Acting like he isn't a high end player is simply incorrect.

He is a borderline #1, and probably a top 20 WR league-wide. He still might've had to go, but it isn't because he isn't a really good player. He is.

    Receptions

Thing he was paid to do

    Receptions get you first downs

    First downs lead to points

    Points lead to wins

Yeah, but it is only part of the equation. Diontae Johnson was 5th in WR receptions in 2021... Did that make him the 5th best WR? No, of course not.

Receptions, yards, TD's.... all of these play a part in how good a WR is. A lot of it is stylistic too. Big play guys have fewer receptions, but higher YPR. It doesn't mean they aren't good because they have fewer receptions, it just means that their usage is meant to produce big plays. They run deeper routes where reception %'s lessen. Their role is to get big chunks when they win their 1 on 1 matchups. Same thing goes for possession types. Just because they have a high volume of receptions, doesn't mean they aren't as valuable as the big play guys. Their usage is underneath, at the sticks, etc. Their role is to keep the chains moving and that is about it. Typically the TD leaders are either big play guys, or just big guys that can use their size in the smaller portion of the field. Their job is to ensure that red zone trips end up in TD's at a higher rate.

Everyone has a role to play. The guys that can fill multiple roles are typically top 10-15 WR's. They vary too. Tyreek Hill could be a big play AND possession guy. Mike Evans is a possession type that is a red zone specialist. Jamarr Chase and Justin Jefferson are kinda just all 3 types in one. Not a surprise that they are the best in the game.

Highlighting receptions as the only thing that matters when evaluating WR's is wrong. You're missing too much of the equation to make that assessment.
