My take on Rogers is that Tomlin is more concerned about his non losing seasons than playoff wins. He has been to 2 Superbowls but so have many other coaches. That record he has is his alone He knows Rogers gives him the best chance to keep the streak going . If Mason starts this is more than likely his first losing season. Tomlin will wait until the start of the season if he has to for Rogers. Just my take on this.

While I haven't been a big fan of Tomlin's coaching for many years, the whole "no losing seasons" thing is an old, tired media talking point. I can just about guarantee it's not something Tomlin worries about, it's just something that sportscasters feel the need to repeat because they're heard others say it so many times.

    It’s like the word “physicality”

Sportscasters seem to feel they must use it

    To me it sounds foolish

If Heyward and Watt finish their Pittsburgh career without out 1 playoff victory it would be a travesty.

What a waste of two amazing careers.

And here is the kicker…you had George Pickens…all you needed to do is get Rodgers in here and the offense would have given you a chance to win. Now, who could we possibly get at WR? I can’t believe we are right back where we started.

I’m fine with trading Pickens if you at least would have drafted his replacement or signed another top tier receiver.

It just screams to me that they aren’t really serious about competing this year.

Really? Are you talking current coaches or all time? Current, there are 5 coaches. All time there are 26........I guess you have to include the Bud Grants, Marv Levys, Dan Reeves and Kyle Shannahans of the world....

Man, the crowd is brutal on this one.....lol

I am going to give you 50% support. I am one of those tired old people who keeps repeating that a non losing season is important to Tomlin. While I do not know this for a fact and have no concrete statements or information to support that, it is human nature to be aware of it. I will bet you money that Tomlin can tell you his playoff record off the top of his head. He can probably recall a lot of odd facts about things that have happened like Boswell's 6 FG game, every name that the Steelers stadium has had for the last 20 years, and a bunch of other random facts. He does not have to study to know these answers. He has lived them. Other people talk about them and he hears it.

I am pretty sure that I have seen press conferences where he was asked about it. He knows. I doubt that it drives every decision he makes, especially at this time when the roster is not even filled for preseason. But that kernel of a thought is in his head. When the team is 6 and 5 or 4 and 6.....something like that, you can bet that he will be thinking about it. He is not going to say he is and if asked he will deny it. But human nature is what it is (just like the standard.....lol). If the Steelers get into a spot this season where they are in danger of a losing season, expect big changes in the game plan and personnel. Because at that time, he will be thinking about it and acting to preserve the record.

That is my 50% support. I think it is a thought in his head and it will affect some of the things that he does.

As for the other 50%, I can't see Khan or Rooney allowing the team to go as long as you said waiting for Rodgers. I am thinking that they may have already moved on from him (the GP trade really makes me think this). Tomlin might want Rodgers, but he does have a team to run and will need his #1 QB to show up and practice with the team. They are not going to wait forever for a 41 year old, surrounded by drama, indecisive QB who does not seem to have his heart in the game anymore. The GM should be all over that, no matter what Tomlin wants.

This is the most likely answer... It just isn't one that is going to bring any sunshine and rainbows to Steelers fans. Roman was out all last year and he is nearly a complete unknown to the fans (and even to the team in a sense, at least as a player on the field). It feels like hope rather than calculated risk assessment, but what do we know? lol

The WR room hinges nearly entirely on Wilson this year. If he's solid, then our WR room will be an upgrade from last year. Not a big one, but a real one. If he sucks, then our WR room will be as good as last years (at best), and likely worse. If we choose not to add another WR between now and the beginning of the season, then Roman Wilson becomes probably the most important non-QB on the offensive side of the ball (at least in terms of how his play will impact the offensive outlook for the team).

I think it's us and the media that talks about the .500 seasons. I find it very hard to believe Tomlin and company sit around talking about how we can win 9 games.

my thoughts too. didn't we draft roman wilson? does our next good one have to be george pickens size? dan marino did it with two mighty midgets in mark duper and mark clayton. he had a heck of a passing game with them. it wasn't 50-50 balls.

When the games are on the announcers are the ones that keep bringing it up about the non-losing seasons.

Is this the same Rodgers that achieved 5 wins for the Jets and got everyone fired?

They extended him, so now he gets to fk around from year to year. Next year he will go after some other one-year lease.

so, in part, I think they do. You have to move on to younger players (cheap ones, too), ESP when you have LOADED on DEFENSE with BIG SALARIES and big names.

that said, I don't think Khan is done. he might be, not sure.

We will struggle on offense, it is the TOMLIN way.......

It was the same with Leveon Bell. One commentator or reported mentioned that he was a patient runner, then every commentator in just about every Steelers game repeated it over and over.
