Its one step forward one step back for the Steelers. Why can’t they sit this guy down and explain to him the opportunity in front of him? It's so frustrating. If we have to trade him now we lose all the leverage and we will not get adequate compensation and we will basically be back to where we were before Metcalf - a #1 wr and a bunch of #3’s.

It's not surprising to me.If a team, whether the Steelers or another team, gives him a $30 million per year contract, they'll probably regret it because Pickens is too much of a headache for a team.

And I don't think his trade value is high for two reasons.... First, despite his talent, he was drafted only in the middle of the second round and secondly the WRs that the Steelers have traded in the last 10-15 years have all been a disaster at some point for their new team, mainly because of their bad attitudes, like Holmes, Bryant, AB, Claypool, and Johnson. So NFL teams know the history of our receivers.

If it weren’t for the frequent bouts of immaturity, I would be in the “pay the man” camp. We are not going to have a $50+ million/year QB anytime soon. We have a young offensive line mostly on rookie contracts for the next few years. With Metcalf and Pickens on the field, the rest of the WR room can be decent role players and be successful. I haven’t looked at the cap situation in the coming years, but I think there’s probably a way to make it work because of the Qb and OL payroll in the next few years.

My only hesitation is that, as a fan, I don’t really know just how are challenging things are behind the scenes with him. If it’s just minor WR diva drama, well that’s par for the course with the WR breed. It’s hard to find WRs who don’t have a bit of diva in them.

in 2026 we have 28 players under contract. 113 mil of cap. 2027 we have 9 players under contract and about 232 mil. by then we probably will have traded for and earned 30 comp picks in the 7th and 1 first rounder for trading pickens, TJ, and cam. :smiley1::cool:

The Steelers are actually looking to extend George

“I had a really solid exit meeting with GP, and I can tell you that he has a desire to be great,” Khan said. “He has a desire to be great here. We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here, with respect to the contract. We won’t discuss that publicly and usually those things are addressed at a later date.”

This and couldnt have sent a bigger message when they didnt draft one either.

Now will he be a Steeler past this season, probably not but you never know. They generally do not sign WRs to second contracts though and have big money tied up in Metcalf.

Kahn indicated a contract extension was in the plans but that was prior to the Metcalf trade

But he has repeated his desire to see both GP and Metcalf on the field together this year

Yep that was all redraft. This is a post draft article. IF it was a legitimate concern you would think they would have drafted a WR in the draft. I don’t want to be in the same situation we were last year at WR.

Technically, they could be viewing Wilson as the potential Z opposite Metcalf. They compliment each other better.

But that works the same if they keep Pickens this year and see how Wilson progresses this year before Pickens would possibly depart in FA.

There's a lot of moving parts to these decisions, on top of whatever may be being discussed behind closed doors.

I like the Depot, but they'll run one article saying that Pickens wants to stay in Pittsburgh and they're working towards an extension, than an hour later they'll run an article saying Pickens is not long for this world. Just quoting different "insiders".

Okay, Lash LaRue, if he promises to wear a cowboy hat and a pair of spurs when posting will that suffice?

Ease up a little. Jeh said the Grumpy Old Men's club is currently full.
