Last year Cam even called some of the media directly for flat out lying about him and training camp.

I have seen it time and time and time again.
Stood right there with the player waiting my turn, while the Washington Times reporter asked a series of questions, only too see the story the next day and the responses were used for entirely different questions/justifications.
Saw Daryl Pounds come real close to punching the reporter out for same.

I find it hilarious ESPN quoted a regular person from their Facebook post last year on Aiyuk.

There are plenty of examples of it, which gives the legitimate members of the media a bad name.

The worst I remember goes back a ways. The Steelers were about to play the Dolphins when Dan Marino was still their quarterback. Someone asked Greg Lloyd a dumb question about his intentions when going after Marino, who was still well liked in Pittsburgh. I don't remember the exact quote, but Lloyd basically said he was going to hit Marino like he would any other quarterback. That quote appeared in most of the local media outlets, but one had him adding a comment about trying to take Marino's head off. Lloyd didn't say it. He was surrounded by reporters when he made the comment about Marino and they all said the one part of the quote was made up.

The sports editor of one of the local papers, who often gave himself assignments like being their backup guy on the Steelers beat, made it up. Lloyd got pissed and stopped talking to the local media. The editor faced no consequences.I wouldn't even put that in the top 10 of the worst things he did in the few years that I knew him.

I think the Anthony Smith story has got to be the biggest or most infamous instance of this for Steeler fans. How it went from a player who likes their chances and has trust in his team goes to he guaranteed a win to Tom Brady being so ticked off about it that he mentions it in the post game presser after the Pats win is just beyond believable. The fact that it's still told the way of Smith guaranteed win over the Patriots and jinxed them instead of what was actually said shows just how quickly misinformation can take hold.

Unfortunately the legitimate ones are becoming an ever decreasing minority

I'm not certain it is true that they are a minority. The ones who aren't legitimate tend to draw more attention. The percentages have gotten worse. The business changed. There is increasing pressure to be first rather than making sure they are right. Even more traditional print journalists often face pressure to post things quickly on social media. The consequences of being too slow are now far worse than the consequences for being wrong.

Truthful media has been dead for decades. This does not apply solely to sports either. Journalism is a joke and most of them can’t think for themselves.

This is where whoever gives credential pass to the media needs to step up and yank the jerk reporter's access. Simple as that. It must be even harder now with all the goons who create a YT or similar media channel feeling they are all that, not even sure how the organizations in question keep up with all the false stuff out daily, but when it comes to team and player integrity I would yank access so fast they could not get enough clicks to buy coffee.

I agree. What I remember most was other reporters being furious with the guy because his lack of integrity reflected on them. Given that and all of the other crap he pulled, I'm amazed no one ever took a swing at that guy. I regret not doing it myself.

I used to hang around a guy named Shirley Povich.
People would flock around to grab a copy of the Washington Post to read his article in the sports section.
He told good stories about players and hit on the personal goals and dreams and the strife, Len Hauss playing with a cracked ribs.... so on and so on...
You got to know the players.

Since the internet, it's all about clicks.
And every day MSM greats me with "Steelers trade for $100mil QB"

Yes. Just because others of us know it, does not discredit him.

    Why does that bother you?

Remember, this is an 'insider' that said the Steelers "will not draft a QB" in 2022 in the first round. "They are not in love" with any of them.

With how so many can't handle the media with its lies. I don't think y'all could handle Sanders.
