For all of you sweating the loss of 3 starters and wondering what the FO is doing, when Colbert was asked about it, his reply was, "losing players from an 8-8 team." I think it's safe to say they have a plan.

It's on the home page, under tweets, some guy named Alan Robinson tweeted it.

Under another tweet, Colbert still won't prioritize their needs, guess we'll have to wait until the draft before we know which way they are leaning.

I think we have so many areas of need that it's hard to 'prioritize.'

It's certainly going to be a BPA situation limited to probably WR and RB on offense and anything and everything on defense.

I'd really have to see the whole convo to understand the context of what was exactly said.

Colbert is right it's not like the Steelers lost any All Pro's the team was 8-8. I am surprised they didn't even make a offer to Keenan Lewis we knew Wallace was leaving and Harrison was 50/50 at staying time to move on. But Colbert needs to have a great draft this team needs some young talent, we can't afford to waste high draft picks on busts like Limas Sweed and Bruce Davis, Willie Reid, Ricardo Colcoulgh sp just to name a few.

Came across that way to me. As in, "So Kevin, what do you think of losing 3 starters?" "I'm getting rid under performing players from an 8-8 team, who cares". The way I took it

I think Lewis already had a deal in place with the Saints well before he signed and I'm not sure he ever intended to re-sign with the Steelers. Based on his comments on twitter a week before free agency started it sounded like he had reached an agreement in principle with them well ahead of time. His contract was not that exorbitant at 5 yrs / $26M so the Steelers could have possibly matched it had they chosen to. Maybe they tried.

IF he had reached a deal with the Saints at that point is that an infraction against the rules of FA? When are teams allowed to make tentative agreements like that?

Not a CBA expert, but I read somewhere that 2 days before the start of free agency, teams and players could start contact (only FA).

Well would be REEEEEALLY surprised if the Saints did anything wrong. They've been a model franchise and NEVER been accused of doing anything wrong before. The only way I would EVER think the Saints might break some rules would be if they were caught on tape doing it or something like that and we know that's never gonna happen. So how dare you Jack!!??

And the pressure builds. He and coach cliche are really going to feel the heat up to the draft,
It should be interesting. I think they better have all their bases covered, Scouts out hitting the pavement everywhere
for this upcoming draft. This maybe the most important draft in a long time. We can't have any misses this year, our
talent level is not playoff caliber right now.

He can say we've lost players from an 8-8 team, but we haven't added any pieces that are going to make us better... So is he saying we're worse than 8-8?

Fans will need to wait and see if the players they added or will add will make the team better. There are some young players on the team that might step up and play better. Established players on the team can elevate their games. Staying as healthy as possible will also be key. Games are not won on paper nor are games won based on fan's perceptions of the team. Only time will tell. I will never understand fan's overreaction one way or another. If fans paid attention then they wouldn't need to overreact or have negative perceptions of the team. The team lost a lot of good players to FA, cuts, and injuries over the years and they find ways to remain competitive.

    Exactly.

And perhaps some don't think we've added any pieces that will make us better but maybe what we did was eliminate some pieces that were perhaps holding us back.

what we haven't added is the production of what we are losing. wallace 32 TD's in 4 years. mendenhall 30 TD's in 4 years. it's not so much getting rid of those guys as much as we have not replaced the production they put out.

Exactly, the M&M boys were a serious detriment to the team last year, their departure is a good thing. Average production from one and nothing from the other and a whole lot of distraction.

I'll agree with you that chemistry probably improves with those guys gone... but you can't ignore the fact that they were good football players. So far this offseason...

    Mike Wallace > Plaxico Burress
    Keenan Lewis > William Gay
Hobbled Deebo > Jason Worilds (I'm hoping I'm wrong here)
32 year old Larry Foote > 33 year old Larry Foote (neither is all that great)
