Blow it up

This roster isn't competing for a championship anytime soon and I'm tired of people saying that it's built to win now. I mean sure, there's ingredients to win now but it hasn't netted tangible results. If someone isn't looked as an asset that it'll help us win these next few seasons then trade them for draft capital. I know the word 'rebuild' isn't in the Rooney's vocabulary but it needs to be. I felt the same this time last year and nothing bout this season has changed my mind and judging by the past 5 seasons, next year won't change my mind either. We need a cultural change and it starts with building through the draft.

 

I have stated before and still believe we will have a very competitive team next year

I started to say this before last season and the pieces are coming together

 

The two parts in red you got correct IMO

 

We said going into this stretch that the steelers could go 2-2. Some even said 1-3. I think 2-2 can still happen and we’ll have our chance at a playoff run.
Got to get healthy though (Pickens and JPJ)…

 

I expect more of the same if there aren't significant changes, because of insanity.

 

I predicted all of this myself. I wanted them to blow up the roster last season as well. This is all going to script.

 

I think blowing it all up would be a mistake. People who haven't been fans of a perennial loser (Columbus Blue Jackets fan myself) have zero idea what that means. Simply blowing it up and getting a bunch of high picks doesn't guarantee that you will be a contender in 5-7 years. TBH its a coin flip at best whether or not you're in the same situation 5-7 years later (ask the Browns fans how that feels). It could potentially be a decade or more before relevance again and that is the risk of doing it. We could get lucky and draft the next Josh Allen and build an awesome team like the Lions.... or we could be the new Raiders.

This is just wild talk imo. We have a lot of pieces to a good team. Heck, two weeks ago we were still in play for the top seed if things broke right. We're not a complete team just yet, but we are pretty darn close. Grab another WR, get a new RB, maybe a younger DL or CB and see what happens. No team is without holes... But there is just no reason to take on a full rebuild at this point. If we were a 5 win team right now... then yeah. But we still control our own destiny for the AFC North division title (over a pretty solid Baltimore team) and we are talking about blowing it all up because we lost a couple football games?

 

Then you're just satisfied with more 9-8/10-7 seasons because that's the ceiling this roster presents.

 

While I do agree with a culture change, I strongly disagree with needing to blow it up.
We're going to make the playoffs. We're not a team that needs to blow it all up. That's reserved for teams like the Browns or Jets.

 

So what makes you think the current course is ok? The franchise is just treading water whilst the stars are just getting older. We have a half decade of a sample size to prove my point here. This franchise isn't a piece or two from being a contender. This franchise needs a franchise QB plus a half dozen pieces plus guys that can replace the aging stars.

 

Tomlin is not going through a rebuild. He’ll leave. Just my prediction. And i think its for the good, after a while a coaches message gets stale. And after 19 years, its enough, time to move on, doesnt matter that hes still relatively young for a coach. Its the mileage not the age. And we all saw how they handled the KP fiasco, Tomlin is not rebuilding with a young rookie Qb.

 

Yeah, but that's a lot of teams. The baseline goal should be to make the playoffs every year. After that skill counts, but a lot can turn on health and who happens to get hot at the right time. Rooney tossed out the gauntlet of winning a playoff game after last year, and that's a logical next step - how he holds the organization accountable should they fall short of that goal (a la 'fix the running game' from a few years ago) is a separate discussion, but the natural progression would be to move from a team that has a winning record, to making the playoffs, to winning playoff games.

This team has holes, but it still has ample resources from which to build upon itself via draft and free agency. If the FO was trading out high-level draft picks and strapping future years down with poison-pill contracts sure to put them in the throes of salary cap hell in attempt to win it all now, I could see more of a concern.

 

So you said a lot of words to say that you accept insanity.

 

Your acting as if your certain of the future this season. I think we’re close and I think we need to re-sign Russ to a 2-3 year deal. This would gives us a some time to find a future QB.

Also, our secondary has been suspect but we’re not healthy. The teams that typically have the most success this time of year are the healthiest. If we can get healthy, you can’t count us out. I’m not sure why each time we lose a game or 2 it’s either fire Tomlin, trade Russ or Watt, or same as years before. No draft is perfect. Hindsight is always 20/20.

You may be right, yet you also may be wrong. Have some faith. I still think this team is on the uptick

 

Really? You start this dumb ass post when we’ve already secured a playoff spot and the division is still in play?

 

No, not really.

 

Is it that surprising that we lose to two of the best teams in the NFL away from home without our most important player on offence and missing half the starters in the secondary? I know everyone has injuries but the Steelers are exceptionally banged up just at the moment, right when they need momentum.

The Steelers weren’t favoured in either recent game, and yesterday nothing went the Steelers way. At key pivot points they made mistakes or the ball just bounced to the Ravens. The Russ INT ended the game effectively.

Still, look at all the young talent on the roster from recent drafts. Add another good draft next season, get Russ a real receiver room and LFG again.

I get that people don’t like getting their pants pulled down by the Ravens in an important game but let’s not lose perspective. This is a good team, not quite as good as the very best in the league but they are good and have players they can build around.

Blowin it up in some sort of organisational tantrum after a bad loss is not going to happen and shouldn’t happen.

 

No one likes to lose or shouldn't. but if the Steelers sign players in FA and have a good draft
next year their roster is as good as anyone out there. The season is far from over, yes it doesn't look good
right now, but anything can happen in the playoffs.
