Rontez Miles...Free Safety out of California (PA)

Miles was recruited by many big name schools coming out of high-school, but he decided to enroll at Kent State so that he could play with his step-brother Vondre Griffin. In Miles’ first season at Kent State, Griffin was dismissed from the program after allegations of possession of marijuana and driving without a license. He was eventually cleared of the charges, but Miles decided to leave the program with Griffin no longer there. He spent the following year working in a warehouse while taking classes at a community college, before enrolling at California University of PA. His honors at the program included: PSAC Freshman of the Year, four All PSAC-West selections, back to back Defensive Player Of The Year awards, and two-time Division II All American honors.

In his first year at California (Pa.), Miles notched 52 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception. In 2010, played all 12 games with 11 starts, and finished with 60 tackles (12 for loss), two sacks, and five pass breakups. The following year, Miles amassed 71 tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions. In his final season, Miles tallied 75 tackles, two pass breakups and four interceptions.

Imagine if he goes to the ravens lol. Rontez miles is his name plays both safety positions he's a long shot maybe worth a late pick for specials and depth.

Interesting that Vaccaro only ran a 4.63. I still don't think he makes it to #17, but it's more likely now than it would have been if he had run a 4.4. I don't care about his 4.63. That's why he's a safety, and not a corner. Hopefully drafters on other teams will feel differently.

I don't know much about the California (PA) kid, but he sounds like an easy UDFA pickup if he goes undrafted - unless he spites the Steelers for not taking him.

i don't care so much for vacarro's build and muscle tone either. i think he's a little over hyped from what i've seen of him on the field. now he's smart on the field i will say, but it's a much faster game where he's going. texas hasen't been real good to us either.

Who was the Steelers Coach overseeing the 40yd Dash? I figure he was someone in our organization since he was wearing a hoodie and a hat.

I think we might actually be very interested in him now since he dropped the catch when he was doing his drill. LOL.

I'm increasingly warming to the idea of us getting shamarko thomas in either the 3rd or 4th.....his height and build immediately bring bob sanders to mind (which isn't a bad thing)....even better, his play is quite similar.... but even more important, this is a guy who's profile portrays him as a very high character person, and a potential leader, which we are sorely lacking..... of course, his measurables may have elevated him a little higher, but if he's there in the 3rd, I think we have to pull the trigger......

Also, I'm convinced that desmond trufant is the best corner in this draft not named dee.

i love shamarko thomas. he plays like a guided missle. not much in pass defense but man he hits. he's a SS for sure. he reminds me of not only bob sanders but a little bit of thomas everett that used to play here. he'd hit guys so hard he'd hurt himself too. thomas is built. so is elam. he looked the part too.

i like trufant, but rhodes is right there. he can play some fs too. i think the corner's i like best and have all year is hawthorne and poyer. it really wouldn't be a bad year to get a good couple of db's , but i did see we have two of the top 10 fastest corners since 2000. justin king and demarcus vandyke. that's impressive. speed is good. both have some starts. will we bring back lewis if we draft one more?

I actually think they are going to let Lewis walk. He will want and deserves starter money. Allen showed last year he is ready to take the next step and be the full time starter. I think king or DVD will step up under the lake effect.

not to mention allen and brown and ike. if they draft one, i'd say no, unless he would come in between 2-3 mil a year as a #2 then maybe. i doubt they offer alot.

I was intrigued by the guy with the Steelers Tattoo myself.........His combine #'s weren't too bad....... so i went and found some tape on this kid......I like what i see....A small school kid who comes off as having a NASTY attitude on the field an wow this guy is a hitter when he hits they STOP! We need Safety help and he's already better than Mundy...lol I think i'd use a 5 on him...........we used to be very successful with this kind of pick
     I LIKE!

After watching his highlights I would absolutely use a 5th as well maybe even a fourth. At worst we would be getting a special teams ace. Dude is a hitter that's for sure but all legal hits with the shoulder.
