When Franco got pissed at Hollywood Henderson

As we prepare to kick the cowgirls' asses, here is one of my favorite stories.

I remember that sequence. I also remember years later Dallas whining about the referee blocking safety Charlie Waters from tackling Franco. If you watch this clip closely, you can see it. That's making at least three assumptions. First, that Franco doesn't deke Waters out of his cleats or, second that mad as he was, Franco doesn't simply run him over. And finally, third, even if he makes the tackle, that the Steelers don't eventually score anyway.

 

It doesn't get much better than being a kid in the 70s and growing up a Steelers fan.

 

Oh, if only i had a time machine to go back. Being a kid was so stress free.
Pirates were contenders in the 70s also. Pens werent as much.. tho nothing much beat listening to Mike Lange on my AM radio.

The attitude that group had in the 70's wasn't imagined nor has it been overblown. Other than Lynn Swann, Franco was likely the most affable, gentle person on the team. But he wasn't about to let a coke headed loud-mouth like Henderson disrespect his QB. So, the anger and snarl that was generated by Greene and Lambert filtered down to every rostered player, even the superstars on offense. If the Raiders couldn't intimidate them, what made Henderson and Cliff Harris think they could?

 

When men were men

 

Remember that play well. Mild manner Franco was possessed on the play, he was mad as hell after they body slammed Bradshaw.

 

For sure, I was a great feeling to watch the Steelers back then, you just knew that they would win going into a game.

 

We’d get pissed if they didn’t win by enough against inferior teams.

 

We were up on Denver 42-0 once and that was the only time I have felt comfortable we had a big enough lead

 

Where’s the fun if you don’t need to fire up the defibrillator?

I'm not sure what it says about me, but watching clips like this makes me emotional. I just care way too much about this football team, and especially about the Greatest Team ever to walk on to a football field, the 70's Steelers.
