Picked up an autographed Bradshaw picture at a fundraiser last night. I got an autographed/framed Bettis jersey at the same event a few years ago.

Cool. Was Bradshaw actually there of did you just buy it with a certificate of authenticity or something?

I was big into baseball autos in the 90s. Have about 100 MLB players autos many HOFers on balls, pics ect. All except one Pete Rose was signed in front of me. I had a trusted friend go to that show as I couldnt make it and had Rose sign 3 items for me. I have not one COA. But I know.

My kids will have to deal with it after Im gone. I sold none and do not plan to do so. The collection is theirs.

I guess what Im saying is getting the auto is the thing.....not owning it.

I go to a lot of comic book shows and very rarely do I buy something signed because a lot of times with comics it actually makes the comic worth less. But I've got some things signed but usually for me I just like to go up and talk to the artist or writer and just shake their hand and carry on a conversation with them. I've just never been that big in to autographs now that I'm a little bit older. But I would say that there's a lot of people that will rip you off in that business for sure. For me it's just always been cool to say that I actually met the person and talked to them. The guy that drew all the Marvel Zombie stuff talked to me and my buddy for like 20 minutes. Then a guy named Neil Adams who is one of the most legendary Batman writers of all time talked to me for about 45 minutes and actually told me the whole story of what was about to happen in the story I was reading at the time! That was awesome!

Yeah, if you're not interested in re-selling it, who cares if it's authentic?

I don't bother getting any of my autographs authenticated because they aren't going anywhere other than my wall.

What kind of fundraiser did you get it at? I bid on a lot of items at charity events in Pittsburgh that are directly associated with the team so I could care less whether or not they are authenticated because I know the team provides a lot of items to be auctioned off so I know they're legit.

I bid on a pair of field passes to a Cincy game at Heinz a few years ago (and won). It was pretty pricey but it came with an autographed, framed 11x14 photo of Harrison body-slamming the Clowns fan. I already have that exact autographed photo (and didn't want to deal with hauling it on the plane flight back) so I just took it down to the parking lot the next day and traded it to a tailgater for a beer.

I had a hard time giving it away. I was walking through the parking lot asking if anybody wanted it and I think they all thought I was trying to sell it so nobody said a word.

Not to be a downer however I always thought that autographs, whether from any kind of celebrity, sports, movies, politicians etc, were pretty much worthless to me. The old saying, "a picture says a 1000 words" sums it up. If you really want something personal get a picture with the person. You don't need it signed. The picture says it all. Then you have something to hang on the wall forever. Its sort of personal. Now if your doing it strictly for money then that is different and I don't know anything about that. I remember a time about thirty years ago when my old man was at a party in youngwood for some reason and brought me home a autograph of George Blanda on a napkin. Really. I didn't tell my old man but threw it away the next day. Autographs that someone scribbles on a piece of paper seems to impersonal. I'm not that awe struck I guess. Just my 2 cents!

can anyone help me with a question about mike wallace? A guy i know was in atlanta and ran into wallace at a event. told him he was a steelers fan and ask him for a picture and auto. wallace declined. said he doesnt do that stuff. anyone been to latrobe or seen him out and had a similar experience? he was hateful or anything apparently he talked to him a few minutes. I just thought it seemed alittle odd. I knowe he does signings but that might be for money. i dont know. by the way he ask him if he would be a steeler next yr. he said he chuckled and said you never know

He must be under contract to not sign anything except for some certain company that plans to authenticate it and sell it. That would be my guess. OR he only signs for "Fitz type money". That's probably a more accurate guess. LOL.

problem is at most shows the promoters charge for a photo with a player... we do it .. every promoter needs to do it .. you hire a player to appear for a certain amount of time.. if the player is a current player or HOFer you also pay by the piece... such as 13,000 guaranteed for 2 hours based on say $40 for a baseball / flat and $60 for a bat/ jersey... sooooooooooo if you stop the line for people to take a picture thats less autographs the athlete can sign and if he doesnt sign enough autographs in his alloted time the promoter is screwed.. so to stop a line for 60 seconds to take a picture is 1/120th of the total time you have on a 2 hour contract.. plus if you look at it .. an athlete signes about 4 autographs a minute.. but it can take a full minute to take one photo.. we allow it at shows with finge / common players that we sign for 2 days and they are not signing the entire time..but with current players or HOFers thats just not possible.. we wil take one photo of the player at the event signing a generic item and sel the photo for a buck if people want it ..but they may have a baseball signed and its a photo of the player signing a bat.. and we have one of the top 2 authenticators on the country at the show to authenticate the items as soon as they are signed for a nominal fee of about $8... we been doing it since 1991
