TJ is easily the most important player on the team. We literally cannot win without him.

Utterly stupid thought. (Unless we suckered another team into a Hershel Walker type trade)

I think if the steelers are still stuck in the middle with only 9-10 wins and the 7th seed and a wild card round exit at best, at some point the steelers are going to need to have a true rebuild and trading Watt would be the thing to do, even if it means in the short term it would hurt the steelers and end the non losing season streak but the steelers would likely have a big offer for Watt and it could be great in the long run

I agree with you...A fire sale may be the only way the steelers can become a true super bowl contender again if the steelers are still stuck in the middle this year

If it's not a defensive league, why would anyone trade for TJ Watt? Why would the Aaron Donalds, Myles Garretts TJ Watts of the world be paid so much money? Why bother having a defense at all?

His argument is bad.The Chiefs just won the super bowl with their defense as their strongest unit but if the steelers are still stuck in the middle,it will be time to have a true rebuilding in my opinion

Here is a thought, I would get rid of HC and most of his staff, BEFORE I would even think about getting rid of our best player. This doesn’t make any sense at all! Get rid of your best player on defense to turn franchise around?! Really? Common denominator is the HC, no matter who the players are he fails to win a playoff game. But yeah, lets get rid of TJ Watt. These writers actually get paid for their nonsense!
Btw, we are 1-11 without TJ.

So dumb, like you can just draft a game changer or rely on another team player.

Why don't we trade our elite players for draft picks we can use in hopes of drafting elite players?

    There's a solid plan.

I dont think fire sale is in the cards, besides TJ and Minkah who do we really have for a firesale? There are some interesting young players, but if you gut the team that much, you get a lot of picks and just the hope you draft good again.

It might be hard to trade TJ with that contract, but he gives you the most value in picks that can move you up to get a QB. Issue there is you have to like and QB and hope he is not one of the 50% plus that usually bust. This years class may produce a higher % of studs, that's rare.

There are some promising young talent on this team, but the piece meal approach and not adjusting to the more modern NFL is keeping us mediocre. Love TJ, but if we could get 2 1st rounders and and move up to grab a quality QB you at times have to move out of the present to insure you future.

What have they really won with TJ? If the Steelers go their usual 9-8 or at best 10-7 with the inevitable 1st round blowout, then I'm all for trading him if they could get two 1st rounders. Not really sure if TJ could even fetch that much at 30 years old, but he might be that missing piece of the puzzle for a few teams. Still think no matter what they do or don't do with TJ, as long as Mediocre Mike is running the show they're going nowhere fast. If they're talking about trading TJ now, then I'd say no, unless they could get a proven top 10 QB that's still in the early part his prime. That however is highly unlikely

except that any trade at that point is magic beans. I mean literally 7 picks and what player would fix an .500 team and propel them into a Championship run? Montana and Marino in their prime maybe.

Trading Watt wouldn't be the only move I would make if the Steelers are like 9-8...I would do a true rebuilding.I know in short term, the team would be worse with this move

I'd like to see them trade Tomlin along with TJ if the usual happens. I'm sure they could fetch a pretty good haul in a package deal

Edit: On second thought, just trade Tomlin, and keep TJ :lolol:

You are more adventurous than me, I always look at trades and rebuilds in terms of known vs unknowns. The Minkah trade I was over the moon about. Instant return on that investment. He was a known quanity and would make the team better from day one. The Claypool trade was a known for an unknown that ended up being a good deal. I mean the need for change with Claypool seemed to say yes moving him was necessary. Trading a player of Watt's caliber in his prime and most valuable for a huge unknown is not something I would look to do.

Sidenote: I think yesterday's trade between the Jets and Penguins is a good example of known vs unknown. Pens got what looks to be a solid player and 3rd line center potentially 2nd line center for an almost identical player that was a year behind the one they traded for who isn't quite ready. Both are potentially great players but equal parts potentially busts as well.

Remember the Khalil Mack trade? Gave away the best player on his team. Every team he played with after that had a winning season or a 50-50 season. The next year after leaving the raiders, Chicago won the AFC North. Sure that there's a lot more to the record than just that one defensive player, but he has made an impact on every one of those teams.
    .
There's plenty of articles about TJ Watt that show what the team is like with and without him. TJ Watt is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Giving him away is just giving up.
    .
I don't get to make the decisions for the Steelers, but as a fan, it is a big hail no from me.

Tomlin and Steelers are going through the Mark Malone , Woodley and Blackledge scenarios. A coach and Org that doesn't know how to develop a QB and will keep firing on old vets. Hell, most of the league can't develop a QB. Need a real bad season or a trade to move into top 5.Should of kept MR !

I said the same thing about trading TJ at the start of last season! If you want the Team to improve, you need to make room to pay other good players. My question to the naysers (people saying we can't win without TJ); How's our win total with him????

I love TJ Watt as a player and how he represents himself in the community and in general! But.... I'm also a realist, that sees the bigger picture here. If we were winning 10-11 games and making the playoffs every year, that might be a different conversation. People just sound ignorant when they say "that's idiotic" or "ridiculous"...again, how's our win total for the last few seasons. There's an old saying, "you have to spend money, to make money"! Truth! The Steelers literally cannot afford any quality players bc of TJ's hit on the salary cap. Taking "deals" like Russell Wilson, are just a joke. How's it workin' out for us?

Nobody can honestly answer those basic questions without admitting that this team, as it currently is/has been failing! Need to get rid of Tomlin more than anybody. And I can say that with a smile cuz he's terrible.

That's a loser's mentality there bud! Anyone who hinges a whole team on one player, is either ignorant or stupid!
