If the Steelers beat the Bills, what is a reasonable expectation for TJ? I've heard different things

I originally heard (maybe during the broadcast?) that TJ would need up to 6 weeks to heal, but could possibly play if the Steelers made it to the SB.

But his brother JJ is saying a couple of weeks.

https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/jj_watt_shares_big_update_on_brother_tjs_knee_injury/s1_127_39777930#:~:text=Former NFL star J.J. Watt, T.J.’s older brother,,to go after a “couple weeks of rest/recovery.”

Anyone have anything actually more concrete? If the Steelers win and keep playing, could we actually see TJ back this post season?

It is tough to say based on the information available. I don't think he is going to play as long as there is any instability in the knee. My best guess is they would have to make it to the Super Bowl for him to play, but that is pure speculation.

My take was that if it was a tear, he'd be out.
If it was a grade 3 sprain, 3-4 weeks (Super Bowl)
But it's a grade 2, so most likely he would play in the second round, division finals at worst.

I read that as him saying it IS the best case scenario based on the results, not "if" it's the best case scenario.

yeah, I think the intent is that it is only MCL, no other knee damage (ACL, etc) that require LONG rehab and that it is not complete tear

I am not a Dr., but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
That being said he is a world class athlete, with an amazing orthopedic staff
and trainers when they decide it is right will be fine by me.
To great of talent to fool with.

Too bad Jimmy Pol who sang the Steelers polka song in the 70's passed on but at least Roger Wood is continuing on with the "Here We Go" songs.

It is the postseason. TJ is the best player on the team. Frequently he's the best player on the field. He's competitive and driven and wants a playoff win. I have no doubt that the Steelers are providing him with the absolute best care possible. He's worth a crapload of money to them and they know his value. There are probably daily updates about his status within the Steelers organization. Hopefully he can return to the field for round two. I just hope that they don't rush him back into service and cause an injury that need a little bit more healing to become a longer-term problem.

If we beat the Bills and Watt was back for the next game, I would be suspicious and uneasy. Seems so unlikely to heal that fast.

It’s a sprain. Coming in for next game increases the possibility that he could be out for the one after that as he could damage it further. But then there might not be a next game if he doesn’t play. I say, strap it on TJ and do spot duty.

No man....We got lots of money in Him...the only way You risk it is if He's really healthy, and maybe a AFC Championship, or SB. Otherwise let Him sit , and heal. That's why We have backups. Perhaps the best OLB backups we've had in ages.

Exactly. This isn't some minor risk if he tries to play on it before it heals. It would make an ACL tear far more likely and that's an injury that would cause problems well into the 2024 season.
