So you know that Rex Ryan Tattoo of his wife wearing nothing but a Sanchez Jersey?

Is it wrong for me to want one but have her wearing a steelers jersey instead? That tat looks just like my wife and I like the idea. Any "artist" in here willing to draw up something like this?

I think most tats are awful.

 

Why?

 

I went to the swimming pool one time and there was a 75 year old woman plastered with ink by what looked like a child that went nuts with a crayola set. I mean it might have been cool when she was in her 20's or 30's but it really looked ridiculous.
My wife has 3 of them. The first was done when she was about 18 at a party with an ink pen and and a drunk with a guitar string.
To each their own though.

Ultimately everyone with a tattoo looks like this and I tell my kids this all of the time.
It may have been cool in your 20s, but it looks worse and worse as time goes on and it looks like sh*t eventually.

 

I have 4 tats. I'll worry about how they look when I'm 80 in another 35 years.

 

I have one tattoo and it is in memory of my grandma. 2 summers ago we were putting on a back deck on our log cabin beside my grandparents cabin, and my gram got on the subject of tattoo's. She said she was always too nervous to get one, but she always wanted a cross or a rosary beads tattoo. That summer she died in a motorcycle accident. So I went and got a cross with rosary beads draped around it on my back. To me, I dont care what it ends up looking like when im 80, its the meaning behind it that i care about.

3 of the 4 tats I have are very meaningful (inlcuding a portrait of my grandfather and a portrait of my uncle), the 4th is just a design that I'm thinking about getting covered up. Not that I regret getting it, I just want something else related to my family and/or my heritage.

The thing about tattoos for a lot of us (ignoring for now the idiots who get drunk tatted on spring break and stuff) is that they aren't for anyone else. You may see them, you may or may not like them, you may have opinions about them, but it's not about you. It's about what they mean to us and the stories from our lives they relate to. I don't regret my many for one second and when I'm old and so are they, they'll still remind me of good things, personal strength, the people I love, and the things that are important to me.

 

Thats awesome! Before I got the one for my gram, I always wanted one but I was hesitant because I didnt want to rush into it and get something just because. I wanted something meaningful. Now, Im in the same situation, I want another one, but I want it to represent my whole family.

 

It was funny. I told my mother that I needed her help with my 3rd and 4th tats and she said "I don't know why you are doing that to your body". When I told her I needed her to help me find good pictures of her father and brother, she said "I'll help you". Funny how the tune changed when she found out what I wanted to get.

My sister got 2 tats, a rose for my grandfather (he used to grow all kinds of roses) and got my parents' fingerprints in the shape of a heart. My niece got one for my grandmother. She always had Hershey's Kisses in the house so my neice got a Hershey Kiss tat with my grandmother's initials in the banner.

 

Always wanted a tattoo of a rooster on a noose on the outer calf? Then I can say my cock hangs below my knee.

 

You guys sound like you have the creative mind that I need! I bang my head against the wall trying to come up with ideas like that!

 

Tat artists usually have great ideas but a lot of them don't want to give steer their clients in any particular direction unless what they want is just not a good idea. I was talking to the guy who did my portraits (He was the winner of the 1st Ink Master competition) and he said that a heavy woman came in and wanted to get a sun around her bellybutton. He knew it would look like crap so he drew it on her and told her to stand up and look at it in the mirror. She stood up, her stomach sagged and the tat got distorted. She didn't end up getting it.
