How long do you think Rudolph's leash should be going forward?

Look at STD setting such a good, respectful tone and example with saying Merry Christmas to everyone. It's reminded me to do the same.

    Merry Christmas, to all!

I figure I give enough hell on the board....I should even it out. LoL.
Seriously....just because I argue, and disagree doesn't mean I don't like people. I don't have to agree to like someone.

If this is the game plan then you already lost. If you go Kenny then you go all in last two games.

I'm thinking only way Mason gets a starting gig is with another team.

If Mason starts and stinks then where are you? Right back to hoping KP is the man.

No matter, Mason gets screwed from opportunity.

A few weeks ago, with me still worrying that Mason would potentially play scared, I would have wanted to stick with KP. After seeing that Mason seems to have shed that (although one game isn't proof), I'd rather give him another shot. Like you said, he's the hot hand. He did better last game than either KP or Trubs has ever done in a Steelers uniform. I think he earned it. Could it be a fluke, and he plays bad. Possibly, but b/c he's outplayed both of the other guys, I think you give him the chance. If he looks bad, you pull him and put KP in.

I agree. Plus if You start KFP....they won't pull Him unless He gets hurt....whereas they would have no problem pulling Mason if He plays bad. JMO.
Hope You are having a Merry Christmas

To me, there shouldn’t even be a question about who starts against Seattle. Pickett was apparently on the verge of being benched after the Cleveland game and has played at a JV level (to quote Tomlin) for most of the season. And to sort of answer the OP’s question, Rudolph’s leash obviously wouldn’t be very long nor should it. But he has earned another start IMHO.

I don't know what the team will give Rudolph if he is the starter as far as a leash goes. But from Rudolph's perspective, it's a great opportunity for him to showcase who he is. He's a league minimum guy with no prospects for a future on other teams right now. But he put out a great game last week and if he did another one this week, he's at least got a lock on another contract with Pittsburgh as a backup, and he might even have some job offers from elsewhere. I can't see a scenario where two solid games in a row from Rudolph don't result in him rising above League minimum next year.

So from Rudolph's perspective, he has a lot to gain. That will result in a pretty solid game from him I believe.

In my opinion, Mason finishes the season.
Mason does so because I need to see if I want to let him go or retain him as a backup.
I want training camp to be open competition.
I don't want to see Mitch anymore and nevermore in a Steeler uniform.

agreed, Mason get a 3 game trial, they need to re-evaluate who he is and if he is worth giving another contract to.

the shock they they extended Trubs, is the most shocking of all. Not sure how good Khan is, after a full year of watching some of his shenanigans. Another reason why we might need a FULL ORGANIZATIONAL enema!

I think the extension (don't quote me on this) was so they could lessen the cap hit, or something like that...if I remember correctly.

4 and 5 would piss me off big time and have STD free of all venereal disease, guy digs ties. ;)

1 and 3, Nothing unmemorable about a Steeler win this season and those numbers were put up by Terry Bradshaw more then once;)

2 and 6, An L is an L but this board would have totally different reactions if we lost and Mason looked good or we get squished like a bug.

To me it would all depend on who the backup is?

If Kenny is your #3 emergency QB, I would guess Mason would need to throw 3 Ints in the game to benched for Mitch.

All QB’s have bad games but in MHO, Mason is better than Pickett and has more experience with the system. If Ben wasn’t such a ass towards and help he move forward he would probably be our starting Quarterback.

Very good point. I honestly think that's what Tomlin was talking about at the press conference about evaluating Kenny's health - not because Kenny can start, but rather, if he's well enough to be designated as QB2. I agree though - if Kenny isn't well enough to step in at QB2, then I'd imagine Mason's leash would be exponentially longer.

His leash should last right up until we get an actual franchise QB. If we're lucky, we get one and Rudolph just keeps playing better and better. Nothing wrong with motivation. Then we'll deal with the horrible dilemma of having two pro-bowl QBs. I am okay with that.

I honestly don't think Rudolph will sustain any high level of success, but he's already made the best throw of the year in first game played (Pickett had one or two decent throws, but took 10+ games to cobble those together). He also doesn't fall backwards for no reason when throwing the ball (Trubisky, do not bring him back)

As for this year, Mason would need to totally implode to consider moving back to Pickett. A two or three int game, several uncatchable passes to open WR/TE/RB, etc. We'll know it when we see it. It will be the big all-four-wheels fell off the bandwagon game...IF it happens.

Keeping Pickett benched, if he's the hungry QB he seems to think he is, shouild only server to really motivate him this off-season to study game tapes, work outside Steelers org with a QB guru, etc.

We need 3 new qbs, but 2 will do. Steelers have no choice to ride out KFP. Need 2 qbs that can absolutely challenge for starting job.
As far as this week against Seattle, I would ride the hot hand in Mason. That being said if offense goes stagnant, bring in KFP.
